How to get rubies?

I just started playing and I am at level 35 but I'm not seeing a single ruby yet. Do they drop if you don't click? Do they disappear if you don't pick them up after a certain period of time?

The fish have a 1/10000 chance to drop every frame (and there are usually 30 frames per second). Clicking is not required for them to drop. They don't disappear, but you can only have one onscreen at a time. So you're better off clicking them immediately so that another can drop. There is a 44% chance of a ruby dropping if you click one, and a 4% chance of that being a double ruby. This can be increased using ancients or relics.

Btw, anyone getting "invisible" rubies since last patch? There are periods where I don't see the +1 Ruby text come up onscreen, but my rubies number goes up. I've been paying close attention and I really do seem to be getting rubies that don't show onscreen.

you just mentioned in you second post that clicking isnt a requirement for them to drop, i usually let the game run open overnight so i heroes can beat monsters to the boss each morning while i sleep and i usually come back with a couple more rubies. i dont know how long it takes for a ruby to drop if not clicked away but ive noticed that sometimes the gold fish shows up after i scroll the heroes up and down as if its stuck on the heroes slider so im thinking its possible it can be "invisible" up off screen attached to the hero slider.

There are these orange birds that apear on screen once in a while... click on them and they have a chance to drop 1-2 rubies.
