There is no benefits from leaving the game open farming that same zone, no.
Only thing is if you where to go over to your computer and upgrade your heroes a couple of times during that period, then you would have higher DPS, therefore killing faster and gaining more gold.
I assume these 8 hours are your sleep, so then yes, you can turn off your computer and come back to the same amount of gold as if you left the game on :P
(I didn't realize this was answered in the FAQ thing so..froggy please don't kill me for not checking there first.)
But since you said it's there, you obviously opened it!
Kudos to you, most people never see that there is such a thing as pinned threads xD
Feel free to ask again if you have any more questions! (After checking the FAQ ofc ;P)
Of course, it is as Mr. Pug sais:
Every effect that affects how much gold you get from idle farming also affects how much gold you get from being offline.
One possible advantage to offline farming: you don't actually have to "kill" any monsters in order to make gold. The gold made is calculated over time, not by actual monster deaths. That means if you are very far and it takes you e.g. 2 minutes to kill a monster and you save and then import 30 seconds later, you will still make some gold even though that wasn't enough time to kill one monster. What's even better is that some degree of your treasure chest value is factored into that 30 seconds of time you were paid for, even if you hadn't encountered a treasure chest before importing. If you need a very small portion of gold to afford your next hero upgrade, you can do this. Keep in mind you will LOSE YOUR CLICK COMBO by importing/refreshing/closing.
Over a long period of time, offline gold farming has the potential to yield less gold or more gold than if you had played online due to the randomness factor of realtime play versus receiving a reliable average of the money you would make during the same time. If you hit a lot of treasure chests and a number of them yield x10 gold, you will probably beat the fair value given by offline farming. If you went a whole 10 zones further, didn't hit a single chest, then imported back to 10 zones ago, you would have considerably more money than before even though you'd be 10 zones back.
