Probably a similar issue, the tutorial itself doesn't load in EOS (I just followed the same steps as in Win10) but it 'acts' like it's running (as in, the "Stop Tutorial" button appears under 'Help'). Here's that discussion:

Someone mentioned in an old Windows forum that it might be Open GL related, but I'm not sure where to go from here or how to fix an OpenGL issue (if that is the issue).
My specs:
* EndeavourOS (64-bit Linux)
* Ryzen 2700
* GTX-1080
* 32GB RAM @ 3200 MHz
* 2560x1440 @ 144Hz G-Sync Monitor
* Linux Kernel 5.7.12-arch1-1
* Nvidia driver, version 450.57
* Steam client build 31 July 2020 09:12:33
* Steam package versions: 1596217132
* Steam Proton version: 5.0-9
So it looks like there's an error with the game not knowing what the default font is to run the playtest. I can pastebin font.conf or any other item the Devs/mods need. Let me know if you all need anything, I want this issue fixed ASAP.
see that is super weird cause even the play test should be loading to game core fonts. not trying to load the fonts from /etc/fonts
Using newer nwjs from https://nwjs.io/ works, but it would good if that was included with RPGmaker already.
I don't know if there's way to "downgrade" or change the font config to something older or if there's some other option, but looks like Arch Linux has this same issue.
I emailed their tech support. I told them that their Steam "minimum requirements" for MV said that it was for Ubuntu 14.04, so they need to support the latest version (20.04) at least since it is an officially supported OS (similar issues happened in 20.04 as they did in EOS). They said that they are no longer supporting MV, which means they've moved on and don't care.
I emailed them back asking if they'd support native Linux or help support Proton for MZ -- they haven't replied back yet.
Getting the newer nwjs from their site allows playtest to actually work but it's not the most stable experience. I get very random lag spikes and freezes if I tab out of the playtest window, both in battle test and on a small map. Audio doesn't lag which is strange and I have no idea what it means overall.
You downloaded the latest nwjs right? That one won't work well with RPG Maker MV.
You need version 0.43.6 to prevent it fro lagging. You might need to remove RPG Maker MV and delete it's folders (in the steamapp/common folder) first and then reinstall it, to make sure non of the latest files are on your machine.
Good Luck!
For your convenience:

This worked for me, thanks.
- Shut down RPG Maker MV
- Reset the game by going to the Steam properties, picking the option to check integrity of files, and letting it redownload everything that was changed so far. Start out with a clean version.
- Download njws.io v0.43.6 from the link a couple of posts above and unpack it to a temporary directory. Copy all the files to your clipboard.
- Browse to the RPG Maker MV directory.
- There are two directories: nwjs-lnx and nwjs-lnx-test. Paste, overwriting any files and folders that already exist.
- Restart and rerun RPG Maker MV.
You will still see various errors, but at least the default font issue resolves, and the playtest launches. This is with Manjaro 21.2.6 on XCFE
