Character Generator .json Files Not Loading
Recently I uninstalled this to make room on my computer while doing some file management, I didn't backup anything since I hadn't opened the app in weeks and didn't see any reason to. I do have a backup, but it's from quite a while back. My game files are on a separate flash drive.

Since I've reinstalled and opened up the character generator to edit and see some of my characters, nothing loads and I have the blue spinning wheel of death continuously. (I'm not deterred from making events or doing anything else really.) I see the customization options and can even save "images" and the setting, but no picture comes up at all. As far as I know my game is up to date as I've set my auto-update to be sure of.

Anyone else experiencing this or now how to fix?

Maybe this is a file access/permissions problem. Have you tried temporarily moving your project folder elsewhere (e.g. the Desktop) to see if that helps? =O

Otherwise, I wonder if you added some generator parts at some point to the Generator subfolder of your RMMV install folder...not sure whether uninstalling through Steam would remove such files. You could try manually deleting the entire Generator folder, then verify files:
  • Steam Library > RPG Maker MV > right-click > Properties > Local Files > Verify
This checks for missing or corrupted files in your installation and re-downloads those files. =)

Having the exact same problem, to the detail of the spinning wheel. I'm scourging the net for a fix, as my MV keep crashing randomly as well. I've made a topic about in General Discussions and put a ticket up at the official RPG Maker MV website. If I hear back from them, or find a fix, I will post it in this topic too. Keep looking, as this is very annoying and bogging down my workflow enormously.

Update: Could you test something for me?

-Open character creator
-Create a random new character
-Save the json
-now load that new one

This works for me without crashing the character generator.

UPDATE: Made a mistake when trying one result, I will come back when I have properly tried.

Yes, this works in the way that you described but does not help me retrieve the data I saved in my old json files.

Okay, locating the new Generator file that was created upon the new installation, deleting it and then replacing it with the altered Generator file that had my added parts fixed the problem! Thanks guys!

Yeah it'd be nice if the CharGen would just give us an error trying to look for parts that don't exist. This is motst likely the culprit.
