RPG Maker MV

Can't access developer tools in a playtest.
I can't access Developer Tools in a playtest no matter how many times I press F8, and I was wondering what I could possibly be doing wrong & if there is something I may have missed.
I thought youjust pressed F8 and the console would come up from what I read & heard, but it
doesn't seem to be working that way. Thanks in advance.

And sorry for the line break in the middle of the sentence. Big typo mistake by me.

Yes, pressing F8 should display the console during playtest. Which version of the editor are your using? (Can view version number via Help > About.) One cause of this is if you started your project a while ago, i.e. before the v1.6 update ~2018 June 21. In that case your base project files may be out of date. You can update them by following ONE of these methods:
  1. Closely follow the instructions in this announcement: https://steamcommunity.com/games/363890/announcements/detail/1694924880247085699
  2. OR make a new project, and copy these files/folders from your current project into that one:
    • data folder (maps & database info)
    • audio, img, movies folders (if you have custom resources imported)
    • fonts, icon folders (if you changed those at all)
    • plugins folder (under js folder, and only if you're using plugins)
    • plugins.js file (plugin parameters and load order)

I'm using version 1.6.2, so I don't think it has anything to do with my editor being out of date. I notice that under the RPG Maker MV Tools menu it doesn't display any tools. Do I have to do something like install the developer tools, set something up or anything before the console will appear?

I figured out what the problem was! I was the dummy that had been forgetting to press the shift key before hitting F8. It was me all along!

Normally it's just F8, no shift, but if you've got it showing up I guess that's good. =P

For clarity / future reference: the version of your editor does not necessarily match the version of your project files. I did not suggest updating your editor version. If your project files are from an earlier version than 1.6, that will cause this behaviour, which is why I suggested updating your project files in that case. =)
