How do you make games widescreen?
Hey everyone,

I've posted before asking about resolution and it's actually not what I was looking for. I've changed the resolutions using the included plugin as well as the yanfly one, however what I was actually looking for at the time was how to make it widescreen. I just didn't have the right words.

I've looked everywhere and can't find anything that allows me to make it wide screen. In the preview video for the software it says you can finally go widescreen and shows it remove the black bars so it is in 1080P widescreen mode.

How do you do this? I don't really want it to be 1920 x 1080 resolution as that makes everything tiny, what I want is the regular resolution but making it fit 1920 x 1080p widescreen perfectly like in the video trailer for this software.

Anyone know how to do that? I even tried ALT-Enter which in VX Ace would go between full screen and not but that seems to not even work with MV, it says in a window mode always.

Anyawys, would love some help, thanks.

You put in a widescreen resolution an give it a map that actually fills the whole of the screen

That doesn't work I've tried it already. It still has the black bars on the sides and scrolls when you get to the edge of the bar.

How strange then that it works perfectly here.

That is strange... What are the exact resolutions you are using and what plugin and what is your map size? I'll try it and see if it replicates here. I did try a huge map that still had the bars and when you walked to the edge it scrolled inside the bars.

Community Basics plugin, a standard 1280*720, and a 40*40 map was more than large enough to fill it.
The only way I could get black side bars was by dragging the game window larger after starting it.

Thanks I'll give that a try and see if it works for me.
Previously I was trying 1920 x 1080.
that should have no bearing on it. I am merely working on a PC with less than full-HD resolution, so cranking it up that high is an exercise in futility.

I tried it and no it definitely does not work.
1280 x 720

game scrolls to left and right and up and down but with the left and right black bars still there. It's still in standard definition and not widescreen.
What size of map are you using?

I've tried 1280 x 720 and 1920 x 1080.
Both resolutions the game shows up with black bars on the side. It never ever goes to widescreen mode. When you get close to the bars the map will screen as if the black bars were supposed to be the edge.

I have a youtube channel.. would it help if I made a quick video to show what I'm doing and whats going wrong and post that in here for you guys to check out?

Just to make sure but are you changing the value in screenWidth and screenHeight or adding the widescreen value to the changewindowWidth/HightTo? because if you're doing the later that's properly the issue. also if you are still lokking for the fullscreen hotkey it's F4.

OMG you helped me get it working!!!

I started a brand new game and only changed the screenwidth and screenheight and everything works perfectly now. Thanks so much to everyone and especially Dinurs :)
Wait! WTF were you doing trying to change the window size? You weren't changing those two variables? Their names are pretty much self-explanatory and they're the only ones that even remotely look like they could be involved.

I originally changed the changewindowwidth / height and left the defaults on the top ones.
It didn't work so I think I came back and changed the top ones and either left the bottom ones or set them to the default of what the top ones were.
Then when that didn't work I think I tried changing both of them and messing around with it. I did end up doing multiple variations on each too but I never blanked out the changewindowheight/width, I think that's what the problem was.

I'm not sure why or how but I had the same issue with the yanfly plugin.
Anyways, it's good now, thanks.
