How do I import custom sprite/characters into the game?
The thing I want to import is a single downward facing character, he doesn't move or have animations, it's just a single image facing downward. I had read for a single character you should put $ in front of the file name, but when I put these files in the folders, none of them seem to show up in the game.

I'm new to RPG Maker, please let me know what I'm overlooking or doing wrong. Thank you!

You need to put them in the img > character folder of your project.

I did, I know the screenshot I linked shows them in another folder but I copied them there as well. Any thoughts why it doesn't show up in the game?

I got this to work by copy/pasting the relevant file into the "sv_actor" folder, as opposed to the normal old "actor" folder. I'm not sure what exactly the difference is here, but this worked for me.

Without old resource manager importing resources to my projects is really annoying thing now. Now I need to copy paste resource to folders... Why they delete resource manager function?!

For clarity's sake, exactly what do you mean when you say that they don't show up in the game? Are you unable to see the custom images to be selected in MV itself? Is the event/actor invisible when you playtest?

Have you checked if the files were put inside the correct project? If you put inside the main game folder, it will only be there if you make a new project. You have to put the files inside the current project.

Just made a quick 144x192 actor tileset and put into project/img/characters folder with $ in front of the filename and it worked fine for me.

In most cases "not showing up in game" means the poster expects that all they need to do is copy over the image and somehow magically RM will assign all the game data to it by itself and put it into the database.

OP clearly understands the file needs to be inside the correct folder. And he himself said that he's new to the RPG maker. Why do you have to be so rude and unhelpful?

Why are you unable to comprehend that in 90% of cases it is a user error AFTER the file was put into the correct folder.

Well you don't have the stats to prove your claim. Besides it's equally possible that he put the files inside the wrong project or into the main RPG maker directory. Also even if you were right your comment doesn't do anything to help the OP but simply insult him.

Jesus, it seems like you're on every RPG Maker MV discussion. And on pretty much every single one, you start trouble with someone.

Yes, your information is highly valued and taken to consideration, but the only reason people tell you something is because you're so blunt and just outright rude.

I don't care how you act outside of Steam, but this person is asking for help, not the blunt, hard boiled response that you are giving him.

Try to bend my comment however you like. Everyone was thinking it.
