Encrypting commercial products
As far as I can see, selling a commercial game based on RMMV does not require the distributed product to be encrypted, whereas much of the dlc and other purchasable content for RMMV does require the distributed product to be encrypted.

My question is this: is this encryption requirement an issue, i.e., is it difficult to do? I haven't got as far as looking into that aspect of game creation, but I don't want to use a load of resources that I end up having to delete because I can't meet the encryption requirement.

It is pack in MV itself, try use the compelte and compress button to package the game, then it is encrypted.

Ok, thanks, for some reason I had thought that didn't count as encryption, because everyone says it's really easy to open the contents.

That's the first time I heard that Osit. Is that new?

I can't remember where I saw it, and I may well have got the wrong end of the stick. I think I saw a discussion somewhere where people were saying the 'compress' button only packed up the product into a single file, rather than encrypted it. I may try to get a definitive answer from the developer - after all, they released the dlc.

For the makers prior to MV, it's packed in at default, and the developer can opt to use it or not. But for MV, encryption is not included. I can't remember why, but it's something to do with the HTML bit or something. But from the comments on RMW, you are still required to follow through with encryption if you use any of the store items. So even though it doesn't come by default, I guess you are required to research, find, and implement your own encryption. Not sure if people actually bother with it or not, or if it's enforced.

No matter what you do, someone will be able to get in. It's really a matter of how much time/effort your willing to spend on a system of varying complexity knowing full well someone will get by it with possibly much less effort than you put in

the help docs want you to use Enigma Virtual Box or whatever which I guess is the next best thing; though, some people are adverse to installing more things

The older versions seemed to compress/encrypt (if the "encrypt compressed archive" button was checked) but there already exist a few tools to get it right back into its project files for each version

MV has no such option.

Thanks for the replies. The EULA accompanying the dlc says 'some form of encryption' or words to that effect. It seems likely from the replies above that packing the RMMV file will not meet the requirements. I think it's a shame if they sell dlc and other stuff which requires encryption, while not providing the means to meet the terms of their EULA within RMMV.

On the other hand, it seems that it will be possible to find third party software which can be used to encrypt commercial products, although I don't yet know how expensive that might be.

the help doc specifies Enigma Virtual Box specifically.

it's free

I have the same problem. I bought a lot of dlc, but they all say it must be encrypted. i think there is no option in MV for encrypting.

Looks like Enigma Virtual Box free but is that enough for it ? and also compatible for mobile ?

or have to buy Enigma Protector ?

Thanks.

Rpg Maker MV's built in encryption is kinda useless. There is a rpg maker mv decrypter that can decrypt and people can steal your resource easily.

However, there are some plugin available to help compress and obfuscate your data files.

I have heard about using enigma virtual box to wrap your game files into a single .exe. I have not try this method before but I heard some people are getting error and not friendly with anti virus software as they label it with some trojan or something.

There is encrypting for MV. When you use "deployment" there is an option for you to add encrypt for your audio and images, but it kinda of useless because there is a decrypter available to decrypt rpg maker mv resources easily.

if just encrypting is req. for the dlc.

Yep, on the deployment window just check encrypt image + audio and enter some random long key and you are all set.
