Selling RPGM-games on steam, licensing and stuff
Hi there!
I'm just wondering if anyone knows what the rules are for selling a game made in RPG Maker MV?

1. Am I allowed to sell a game made in RPGMvm (on let's say, Steam) at all?
2. If so, what are the rules when it comes to selling a game with default RTP? Is that okay from a legal standpoint or not?
3. If it's not legal, how much do I have to alter it to be able to call it "my own" and sell my game legally? Or is it so that I must make my own tilesets from scratch to be able to sell my game infringing on any legal rights and copyright laws?

Thanks for the help!
Nick

Yes, and yes. Provided you follow credit requirements and such, and whatever rules need to be followed as a Steamworks developer, you can sell games made with RPG Maker MV on Steam, the Play Store, itch.io, and other places.

I'm not really familiar with the rules of credit requirements but I can simply assume that credit should be given where credit is due, right? Like if I've used a modified version of the default RTP this should be stated somewhere?

The only time your not allowed to sell the game is if the aurthor of the content has specificly stated that there content can't be used in a comercial game.

AND when the author ripped that content from somewhere else and distributes it without permission.

AND when the license terms are unclear.

AND when the author cannot be contacted to state their terms.

It is NOT permitted unless explicitly forbidden. It is forbidden unless explicitly allowed.

I assume that you're talking about people that provide assets with the intention for others to use them in their games, but just to clear up confusion for anyone else that might read that:

The content creator does not need to explicity specify that you can't use their content. Unless they have provided terms of use that say they CAN be used (commercially or otherwise), assume that you're not permitted to do so. Creators are not required to add a "Do Not Steal" message when they post something that they don't want to be used by others.

As for the original question, the requirements are in the Help File (under End User License Agreement). Basically, you will need to state somewhere included with the game (like in a Help file) that it's made using this software, and include the required text. You can use the included assets as they are. No edits are required, legally speaking.
