Positioning troops against battlebacks
I'm just wondering why I have to put monsters halfway up the wall for them to show up anywhere but the middle of the floor or lower in battle.

Is there a reason for this?

Because they are where you put them. If you put the at the bottom they are at the bottom. If you put the at the top they are at the top.

But shouldn't I have to put them on the floor for them to show on the floor?

I am literally placing them standing in the middle of the wall for them to appear more than halfway up the floor

There is NO FLOOR to stand on. They don't even have feet to stand with.

It is all images! Images of walls in the back, images of floors in the back too and images of enemies drawn in front of the background images.

The battlebacks in the game do not fully align with how they are showing in the database troop view, as explained in the resource standards. This has no bearing on the placement of the enemies.

This is all you really needed to say

It would have been, if your problem description had been clear enough to be able to conclusively tell this to be the issue. But alas, your choice of exaggerating the effects to a degree that they obfuscated the actual issue did not help at all.

I'm not exaggerating. To line a non-flying monster troop up on the floor with the position of the character in battle, I'm placing them halfway up the wall... and I wanted to know if there was a purpose for it.

And the misalignment between the setting in the database and the game is a couple dozen pixel, not half a screen.

Which, given the size of the box for positioning monsters comes out to... about half the size of the wall.

I don't know what you're trying to prove at this point.. you answered the question, I thank you for that, but telling me I'm exaggerating when your own statement shows that I'm not isn't doing much beyond getting one or both of us annoyed.

The battleback box in the troop setup screen does not take into account the chosen resolution you have for your game. I know becuase I have a similar situation because I am having my screen at about 1300x700 for gameplay. The troop setup screen doesn't auto adjust for that (too bad) so I have to place the troops in odd places to make it line up correctly in the actual game. I just memorized the basic area that works for me and try putting them there for each time I do it. I also use custom sized battlebacks and the troop setup window won't display those correct either so I use the default ones instead in here. Just something that has to be worked around by manually battle testing and adjusting as needed. I have not heard or seen a solution other than just adjust and playtest yet.

I am not talking about the box in the database. It is very easy to align a monster sprite to a suitably patterned background image and then measure the alignment offset in the actual game window. Where surprise surprise, it is not that large.

Create yourself an alignment frame for the background in the troop window. Just a couple of lines is all it takes. A bit tedious while you make it but it makes it so much ever after.

Good idea there. I may just make myself a grid background for that very thing.
