RPG Maker MV

RPG Maker MV

RTP Games and can they be good?
I've messed around with RPG Maker for a while now (dating back to XP) and I've never been good when it comes to Art, Composing, or Scripting for that matter so a project im working on is gonna be mostly RTP assets with the exception of the characters as those would be done through the character Generator (still RTP imo but its not default cast) so i just have to ask can an RTP game be good?

I'm aware that theres a ton of RTP games on the workshop and part of that is caused by it being an unfinished project from 2+ years ago with random assets just thrown in for the hell of it. I feel RTP games can be good if the story is interesting giving that MV has a good char gen. it'll at least make the game not feel samey as other projects (my only experience was from VX Ace) I've played.

RTP games can be good. Due to seeing the graphic too much, is giving the feeling could be too old.

-Is just not many people make a good use of it.

Game is a game, graphic is graphic.

Let me say it like this:

RTP is a great set, which basically includes everything you need to make an awesome RPG. However, the same graphics are used by thousands and thousands of other devs, who might not make a great game with it.

Doesn't mean you can't make something great with it.

The other way is true too: Buying expensive, super awesome graphics, doesn't mean you automatically have a great game on your hands. Just like with RTP, you still can make genious games with it, but also crappy nonsense games.

What you do with the graphics, that is so much more important than the graphics you use.

I've seen a game where the graphics were drawn by kids with crayons, then scanned and used as assets. The graphics were really as bad as you might expect, but because the idea was so genious and those horrible graphics were used so well, it was still an amazing game to see.

Thanks JD and yeah I guess if the game can shine in gameplay experience or have a uniqueness to it. I made a few attempts at some projects one of which kinda hit flat due to the naming (i used google translate to get latin translations like 7 years ago) while others i never got a solid build on it to put out and some of them were horror/mystery genres where i had some assets made (i'll be it meh at most).

one title was going to be a remake of a horror game TheUnproPro put out on youtube a long time ago but was lost. another was a detective like game finding clues with some supernatural added into it but didnt make it past the mechanics part.

this current project i have going now is actually a fantasy fic i had made up in my head (its been reworked like 5 times at this point) and is something I'm pushing through with as mentioned in the original post. scripting is all done through yanfly plug-ins but im sticking with the basics for now before i try and tweak visuals or layout.

I cannot say when 'll have a build made to put out on this as its still very early in development and will be quite some time before being uploaded to the workshop for testing. If interested in what my project in VXAce was going to be like by all means ask away, i honestly did well with the development considering i went event crazy with it and somehow made it work it was just lacking a story as it was generic AF and the characters felt the same and supreme edge lordness radiated off it.
