Shadows layered over objects?
I've noticed that the shadows the game automatically draws from walls and that can be manually added with the shadow tool are always layered beneath objects that can be added to the map, which makes it look very awkward when something is ment to be next to a wall, but is completly unaffected by its shadow. Is there some way to have the shadows layered above objects?

You could make an event with a transparent shadow graphic and place it over the tile that you want the shadow on top of.

Wouldn't that rather cluset up things, with that many events all over the map, just placing proper shadows on things?

I don't really know how many things that you want to slap shadows on top of. If it's an issue, you could also modify tiles. Additionally, you could also use a light/shadow map.

What do you mean with, "a light/shadow" map?

other than what Boss suggested, i can only think of parallax mapping.
Now if i understand correctly, MZ should be able to let you do this.

I dont see how this helps him though. This is just creating light and tint layered over the map and follows the player. This won't work for static shadows on objects.

Or am I missing something?

Im curious because im new to RPG maker and trying to learn different techniques and this is a problem that Ive had while making maps. It always bothered me that shadows arent placed over objects.

The only thing I can think of is paint over the object in gimp or photoshop and use that as your asset. Wouldnt that work?

Well, he was asking what a lightmap was. That's what it is. Additionally, you can also use parallax mapping, which basically means creating static lighting and shadows yourself in an image editing program. Additionally, there are also various plugins that can be used for event based lighting.

Any combination of the previously mentioned solutions would likely work. You can also use the shadow pen to remove shadows from places that you don't want them and to add shadows to places that you want them. Maybe OP isn't familiar with the shadow tool. I'm not exactly sure what he's asking for without seeing it.
