You mention using at least one other plugin...to be clear, does the resolution thing happen if you turn off all plugins except Yanfly's Core Engine, save your project, then playtest?
What values have you entered for the parameters? The resolution should be specified as an integer number measured in pixels, not tiles (default 816 x 624). Sounds silly, but worth checking regardless! =P
If you press F8 during playtest, a second window should appear. Do you see any red text (errors) there, and if so could you click it to show a detailed message, and either screenshot or copy+paste it here?
If all else fails, Yanfly's Core Engine isn't strictly required for most (all?) of Yanfly's other plugins now, though it is recommended and comes with some neat little fixes/features. =)
(This is not a burn towards you, just saying why bumping doesn't work)
---------------------------------------------
Now towards your problem... Do you have more plugins? If you have the community plugin, which is active in new projects, then turn that one off. The thing is, this plugin sets the resolution, and Yanfly's engine does too. It is like 2 driviers are stearing in the same car, one wants to turn left, and the other wants to turn
right.
