RPG Maker MV

Now that RPGM MV is coming to PS4...
Now that RPG Maker MV is coming to Playstation 4, will we be able to create a game on the PC software and compile to run on the PS4? And how will people be able to play our PS4 RPG Maker MV games if they don't own MV themselves?

It is? I assumed that was a hoax.

No.

The same way they play any other game. Through the PlayStation Store.

I honestly think it is a bad idea. Getting assets is a pain, if possible at all. And then if you finally made something, no-one will buy your crappy game. Cause, hey, it is playstation 4, that community often looks down on indy games, even the good ones.

btw, not saying your game is crappy. I mean, that is what the PS4 community will say, I think, cause they say that about all indy games.

Like it was previously mentioned (and speculated elsewhere), the port will be released on the consoles similar to how FES was released. The only exception I could see for this would be Microsoft (to further push their whole Xbox experience between the console and PC) and Nintendo (because of their audience). Again though, it'll likely be a stretch and not work out well for various reasons.

Has this been confirmed by the developers or are you just guessing?

I can't see how this would work out in the long run if they don't allow us to create and compile the PS4 version on the PC. RPG Maker MV doesn't have a graphics or music editor, so you're pretty much going to be stuck making games using only the default assets. People want a unique experience; nobody is going to buy your custom game off the PSN store if you're just using the default assets.
The console versions of RPG Maker have always been more just... games, really.

True, but consoles at that time were also very limited and didn't have the capabilities they do now. Back then, the games primarily ran on cartridges on systems that didn't have hard drives or the internet. Today's consoles are more like computers and can handle a lot more. If they treat this like they would an SNES RPG Maker release, or better yet, the 3DS version of RPGM or Mario Maker, I would be incredibly surprised...and extremely disappointed.

It's probably the full version, just exports to PS4, probably (hopefully) as DLC for rpg maker. Oh what a horror that would be if every game got his own spot in the store. Is you search for skyrim, you get 829173632 results.

Exactly. And everyone's library would be cluttered with a bunch of half-baked games. According to the product page[store.nisamerica.com], though, people will be able to play games without the main RPG Maker MV game.

"Make, Upload, Play! ‐ Enjoy games made by fellow gamers with the RPG Maker MV Player, free for download and play, even without the RPG Maker MV software!"

Oh, you know, now that I re-read it, I bet the "RPG Maker MV Player" is the name of a seperate game download that can be downloaded for free and plays the levels. Well that bites if we can't even sell the games as standalone titles.

That's why I said it'll likely run the course of FES.

At least it won't meet the same fate as the iOS RPG Maker (rip).
Oh the agony! Oh the humanity! To not be able to make a quick buck with shovelware on the consoles, how will we ever survive this vile betrayal by our corporate masters?

Meh... Give anything a try! Might even sparkle a new string of makers get out of their consoles and actually DO something XD

Who's talking shovelware, Kitty? Everyone in this thread so far as expressed their feelings that they don't want PSN flooded with look-alike "shovelware". I pick up on your sarcasm, but not sure where it's directed...

A lot of what we get from non professional developers IS shovelware. Have you not seen what passes for "games" on the internet? Quite a lot of it is not worth playing. A great example is the crap we got from Greenlight and why it failed.
