RPG Maker MV

2 tile high tiles and characters.
There is something I really wonted to do, ever since I bought my first RPG Maker (VX Ace)... Adapt the tilesets to fit a 2 tile high character profile.

I knew this was a lot of work, and I was convinced that it would look horrible... So I never did it. Untill now. I adapted all files from the INSIDE and OUTSIDE tilesets.

This is more work than just double the size of the png. First of all, it takes more space, so you have to cut. And you don't want everything to be 2 times as high. Even though that leaves you with 4 tile high trees!(!!!)

For trees it might look cool, but I always hated that I was a s big as a bucket, or a teddy bear. I don't know how I peed in a toilet before... The thing is as big as me! If the lit falls down, no-one would ever find me. (Good thing the toilets are on the SF set, which I did not addapt... yet.)

So I increased some tiles 200% in hight, some 150% and some not at all. I did this to my characters too. Kids now look like kids. And more importantly... Adults do NOT look like kids anymore. We're not dwarves. We're men!

I am so happy, I am never going back to 1 tile characters. Even battles look 1000x better. Yes, I addapted my battlers too. Now I am bigger than the rat. And not just as big as its snout.

However... This all looks awesome and MV just got (even) much better. There is a downside. I have to start over. Again. Yes, really. Luckily in this case it is only the maps I have to re-do. The system, database and even my events can stay untouched. I would only have to adjust the doors and transfers.

Did anyone else ever convert the tilesets to 2 tile high sets? And if so, did you think it was worth the afford and the time?

Oh everything goes sweetly. Still tuning my tilesets. And look forward to build my maps with them. I guess that would be any sleep for me tonight.

For the game im making i have some characters that are "twice as tall" as the regular "chibi" ones; i plan on drawing them myself; (and some of the door frames for them, hehe)
heres one of my OC's Concept art, that i'll adapt. gonna be fun. =)

to the question.. Absolutely, if the story requires taller tilesets and characters; i think its totally worth it.

Why did you have to start over?
