and if you own rpg maker vx ace you can use the items and states from there
yanfly has a sheet with all weapons states and items hope that helps
Ok I see now that you can assign animations to act similar to a state overlay using the visual state effects plugin. I had to watch the youtube vid again to catch that part. So I guess I can custom make some animations to use for state overlays this way.
I found an alternative plugin that relies on adding rows to the overlay graphic, but it reportedly conflicts with Yanfly's Animated Battlers plugin (and maybe others): https://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?threads/more-state-overlay.47886/
