Unwanted invisible party members
I bought RPG Maker less than a week ago and I'm already addicted. But that's not the point. I need help. I have set my starting party to just one person, yet once I check my party, I see invisible party members. This also happens when I enter a battle. Invisible battlers, that can attack, guard and use abilities like normally. How do I get rid of them? Thanks in advance.

Once I playtest the game with only one actor, the message <TypeError Cannot read property 'isAppeared' of null> appears.

Try going to the System tab in the database, and deleting any blank or "?" rows in the "Starting Party" list. (Note the last row will always be blank, this is fine.)

I have deleted all of them, apart from my actor and the last blank one, but the invisible party members still appear.

To double-check, use the "Change Maximum..." button on the Actors tab of the database to change the maximum number of actors to 1 (if it isn't already, and assuming you only want the first actor). Then check the Starting Party list on the System tab again.

Otherwise, last few ideas:
  • Are you using any plugins?
  • If you create a new project, does it happen with that one?

I have tried changing the maximum actors, however when I change them to 1, my game won't start up. The message <TypeError Cannot read property 'isAppeared' of null> appears.

Also, I am not using any plugins. However, I started a new project and this issue did not appear when I tested it there.

I'm terribly sorry to revive this post after all these days, but I have found the solution. Apparently, there was something wrong with the save file I played the game on. Starting a new save file has fixed the problem. Thank you for your time, though!

Oh, that kind of makes sense; maybe it was trying to load an actor that no longer existed.

Good to hear you managed to solve it! ^_^

I came here trying to fix the same problem, I have tried everything listed above already with no progress.

To start off with, do you get the error when starting a new save game as well?
Helps determine if it's something with the base setup or if it's a result of something changing in regards to the save file trying to pull assets that no longer exist in the game directory.

you're going to encounter that problem a LOT with other things
always do your testing in a "NEW Game"
