It also has a massive community with a wealth of resources and knowledge.
That said RPG Maker also gets a bad rep in general because a lot of people make a lot of terrible games with it. But that's not on RPG Maker, that's on you.
With some creativity people have even made arcade and other games using the engine, even isometric and pseudo-3d games.

I own both and prefer RPG Maker because I know how to use it a lot better back through to using RM2K, though Gamemaker is similar in ways but is arguably harder to use overall and has more potential as a result, especially for action combat games. However, you can still make basic action games in MV without custom scripting just using in game fuctions, more complex action games will be possible as custom scripts are released.
