Display Issues and INI not saving
So, I bought this game a while ago and played a few missions and everything was fine. I recently loaded it up and whenever I do, the game takes a while to load but eventually get minimized. When I click on the icon to bring it back up, the game is split between both of my screens and displaying at a much larger resolution than it should. Also, its keeps blinking between the main menu and a black screen. Sounds, music, and even things I'm playing in the background (Youtube) keep cutting out and I can't stop it nor can I click on anything at all on screen (as I can only see part of the Campaign button).

So, I looked around and found the INI to edit. I changed both resolution settings to 1920x1080. Saved, loaded game up same thing. Checked the INI afterwards, and it was back to the really high display resolution again. Tried it again but added the FullscreenMode=2 line to hopefully force it into Windowed mode. This time when I loaded it up it did display in a window mode through all the opening credits (such as the Games Workshop Logo) but once it gets to the main loading screen (when it says Battlefleet Gothic Armada and has the 3 loading dots in the bottom right), the game gets minimized again and all the settings in the INI are now reverted again.

I tried loading it up on my laptop (which can barely run the game at this point) and see if I can force the settings there and have it sync up with the Steam Cloud and that didn't help. I've verified the integrity of all the files and I've even unistalled and reinstalled and still had no luck so I'm at a loss. Does anyone have any advice?

GTX 1070
12 GB RAM
and I am using 2 screens (although the second screen is for streaming and work)

Hi,

Can you delete your Config folder here: C:\Users\"PC Name"\AppData\Local\BattleFleetGothic\Saved
And launch the game again.
It should fix your problem by reset autoconfiguration.

I did delete that folder as another shot and it still does it. I deleted and reinstalled the game. I also tried to adjust the resolution in the ini then change it to Read Only and that saved the settings however the game kept doing the same things. I've disabled the second screen, no luck. Right before I left for work, I repaired C++ as well as did a clean install of Nvidia drivers again however still not sure if that fixed it, I'll check once I get home.

I've had no issues in other games, only this one at the moment. But with all the changes and attempts to fix it, I really don't know if it's the game or my rig. But what's weird is that I have loaded it up and played the game on this pc before (same hardware, nothing has changed since then) and didn't have a single problem.

Oh, should mention, the only way I've been able to get out of the game is to reset my PC otherwise, my screen keeps flickering and I'm unable to click or do anything (alt f4 and ctrl alt delete don't do anything once the game starts flickering and such).

OK I solved this on my end. Its a pain but here goes. The auto resolution is basically setting to your PC capabilities and not your monitor native resolution. It set my resolution VERY HIGH. Beyond what the monitor could display. What I did was hook up my HDMI to my TV and get the darn thing to come up. From there I was able to set the resolution to the Monitors native and hook back up the the monitor. BINGO Im playing TAU! Hope this helps.

I didn't try the TV option, however, I just got home and fresh installed all my display drivers and checked all my INI files, and also noticed Steam was updating the game (possibly the Tau update) and I loaded it up and after a REALLY long load time, I did load up correctly! If anyone else is still having trouble, message me and I'll try to assist.

Hi guys,

Glad to hear that.
Notice that now, the resolution isn't settable if you're in Windowed Fullscreen. (It will take the maximum resolution of your screen)

@Boba Ferret.
Actually the game should take the maximum resolution of your monitor and not the maximum resolution your PC can support.
Maybe there is a software to manage your screen(s) or a composant that create this issue.

Can you guys please add your DxDiag in reply?
I'll report the issue to developpers.

Did you use Nvidia Control Panel to upscale your resolution by activating the DSR?

No, not used that feature. I just did a clean install of display drivers and didn't install the 2 3d options while doing custom install. Made the ini files read-only just to try and load it up and was successful. Once I get home, I'll most likely change them back from read only and see if I can adjust settings from in game.

Really appreciate all the assistance and really looking forward to playing the game more

If you encounter this issue again you can also try to launch steam as administrator and then the game.

I already had Steam in Administrator and I eventually did change Battlefleet as well.
