The Traitor Fleets of Chaos in BFG are the roving elements of Abaddon's Twelfth Black Crusade. Relying upon ancient but (counter intuitively) highly advanced ships that often once served the Imperium, Chaos fleets employ tactics more reminiscent of WWII era naval engagements: favouring long range battles and flexible fleet formations to take advantage of their multitudinous dorsal weapons and good manoeuvrability. The Chaos forces in the Gothic Sector will have originally been based at the Eye of Terror, the largest real-space warp intrusion in the galaxy. During the Twelfth Black Crusade, they roamed within Segmentum Obscurus to reach the Gothic Sector in order to recover pre-human artefacts of frightening power: the Blackstone Fortresses.

"You primitives think you own the stars but you have no conception of what you are saying. You can barely command your own lumpen bodies, so how do you believe that you can subjugate entire worlds?"
- Attributed to Prince Morvael of the White Flame Corsairs
excerpt from the Battlefleet Gothic Rulebook
The Corsair fleets are largely piratical raiders, preying on convoys and weakly defended stations. It is important to note that they are NOT affiliated directly with either the Craftworld or Dark Eldar, the “parent” factions of the Corsairs which people may be more familiar with. Corsairs are freelance Eldar that walk a knife edge between the Craftworlder's discipline and the Dark Eldar's reckless decadence. Their ships are the most sophisticated in the Gothic Sector (barring occasional Necron visitations) and enjoy unparalleled speed. (I'm not kidding, on the table top their battleship's base speed is 25cm – the speed of an imperial escort. But. They can move twice. Each turn. So 50cm.) There is a caveat to this however: the Eldar use solar sails to power their ships and, much like trying to sail into the wind, sailing towards the “sunward table edge” can slow their fragile ships to a crawl. As mentioned, we don't know how or if this style of movement has been implemented but it would be amazing if it has. The Eldar raiders of the Gothic War were based in the Graildark Nebula, a huge cloud of dust and gasses, with a smattering of pulsars, lying beneath, galactically speaking, Port Maw.

The Ork pirates active in the Gothic sector are very similar to Orks everywhere else. They are not especially comfortable in the vacuum of space (even when inside a ship) and so they distract themselves from this by fighting. Either with other spacefaring vessels or, failing that, each other. This being the case they had only an incidental impact on the Gothic war, claiming kills on both sides when their fleets had the blind luck to run into enemy ones. We know very little about Ork space travel but they will make use of cannibalized, improvised or otherwise acquired technology that the best and brightest Big Meks of their kind will instinctively hammer into something that, miraculously, works. Sometimes they even make use of meteors that they attach engines to, and can ride across the galaxy aboard space hulks that drift in and out of the warp mysteriously (assuming they survive the Immaterium). As you can imagine they are violent and aggressive: loving close range exchanges where they can see all the pretty explosions and launch boarding actions. That's really where the fun is!

Phew! Thanks for reading (the bit you were interested in). I think now as we aproach release, I will stop updating this in favour of a guide that a group of us will be working. If you want to check it out it's here!.
See you in space you filthy Mon'keigh!
Hopefuly this glossary will clear up any confusion over BFG terminology, or terms that I have used to describe relative weapon or ship properties.
“Expanded” and “Massive”: This is my terminology and not official. It is simply a way to describe the relative power of certain weapons and fittings. The order is: negligible < very small < small < standard (the default) < expanded < massive < massive+. Speed is handled in a similar way with the order being: Slow < normal (default) < fast < very fast < ??? < ??? < ??? < sickeningly fast < ludicrously fast. (see the additional disclaimer in the Eldar Corsairs section).
Lance Weaponry: Lance weapons in BFG are advanced, high powered energy weapons that can turn armour and metal to molten slag in an instant. In the table top version, they do not take armour into account when inflicting damage. As such, I think we can expect some sort of armour piercing attack from them in Armada.
Launch Bays: Basically flight decks for fighters, bombers or boarding craft to depart from/dock in. We have little information on this, however attack craft can bee seen during trailers, though whether they are launched or activated as an ability remains to be seen.
Capital Ships: A capital ship in BFG is anything equal to a light cruiser or larger. They have crews routinely numbering in the tens of thousands or more and are kilometres long. These will form the backbone of your fleet.
Escorts: Escorts are small (read “only” hundreds of meters long) vessels that operate best in squadrons. Very fast and able to quickly respond to developing threats, they can be thought of as the light cavalry of BFG. Beware however, they will likely be shredded instantly when subjected to the baleful attentions of capitals.
Port/stbd/prow/dorsal/keel: Simple nautical terminology: Port = left, stbd (starboard) = right, prow = front, dorsal = along the top, and keel = along the bottom. Generally speaking weapons can fire in the direction they face, however dorsal weapons can fire in the port/stbd/front arcs, prow weapons may enjoy some flexibility, and escorts can normally fire in port/stbd/front arcs with their batteries as a matter of course. Remember: we don't know too much about how this will function in Armada, so a pinch of salt is required!

I hope they plan to do Dawn of War like expansions, introduce new fleets and add stuff to existing fleets alongside a new campaign. I would also love o see some new ship types to expand some of the more lacking fleets (Imperal and Chaos have ridiculous variability compared to almost everything else).
2) One does not 'sacrifice one's soul' to the glory of Chaos. Properly understood, Chaos empowers the individual. Chaos mutations and gifts are not some petty marketplace transaction in which one barters one's soul (which is of questionable value at best) for some even more petty temporal gain. Properly understood, humanity *is* Chaos, and recognition of that fact in no way lessens an individual.
Properly understood there is no "sacrifice of one's soul", what is discarded are merely useless conventions of "rules" and "order" that perpetuate inequities of power and suppress and oppress the maximization of individual potential.
The unversed may consider certain manifestations of Chaos as "curses" and others as "gifts". But really, whether one becomes a slimy slug Chaos spawn, or manifests psychic powers that can crush enemies from afar, regardless, properly understood, *both* such manifestations are gifts of Chaos that allow humanity to transcend itself. It is only the uninitiated that insist on classifying different mutations as "good" and "bad" in line with their deluded and sadly limited understanding of reality.

I hope this post helps others understand the glories of Chaos - and conversely, of proper spelling and grammar.

Thanks for the input! Corrections have been made.
However, regarding Chaos: Although you Mon'keigh may not understand, there are no boons provided by the Ruinous Powers. One may only bargain for a slightly higher state of eternal servitude. Though I suppose a human soul is worth so little that gambling with one isn't very risky.
We have "clear" footage of Blackstone Fortresses revealed in the otherwise relatively uninformative narrative trailer! So, what are they? Well: as mentioned in the Traitor Fleets section, they are large, pre-human constructs that were inert and used by the Imperium as space platforms until Abbadon recovered the ancient artefacts known as the Eye of Night and Hand of Darkness. This allowed him to capture them from the Imperium and control their incredibly powerful weapons, which were capable of destroying planets and destabilizing suns when used in concert. I strongly suspect that they will purely be a feature of the campaign, where they will play a vital role in the Gothic War.
Activated Blackstone Fortress
Role: Very slow super-weapon & fortification.
Armament: Warp cannons (an absurdly powerful lance in the tabletop).

Did they all get blown up or lost? I know the tech to build more was lost along time ago, but you would think 1 or 2 would still be around.
They might have been converted to other classes, destroyed, or simply never left the Eye of Terror or their particular Space Marine fleet operations.
EDIT: OP there is a shot of the rear end of a Hemlock destroyer @1:13 in the narrative trailer to he left of the void stalker. There is also something that might be a Nightshade destroyer but it is too small to tell.
Nice spot! ^^ I'll update at once and credit :>
If you don't mind I've actually listed the apparent Hemlock as a Hellbore, since it appears to have an upward pointing solar sail and a lump on top which could be the turret on the Hellbore
Also I'd like to add that the attention to lore in these cutscenes is promising - those are definitely Corsair Eldar rather than Craftworlders!
