Best Imperial Cruiser?
Ive just unlocked my second cruiser slot, and already have a dominator class. What should I go for next (leaning towards the lunar)?

Dictator!

Which one is that?

I've used the Tyrant and I'm really enjoying it. 4 lances FTW are great to put down shields (need upgrade) and let your light cruisers helping

Spam nova cannons.

Dominator (I think?)... The one with the Nova Cannon. That thing is ridiculously awesome long range fire support, and packs good close range brawling guns to boot. Give it the skill that lets you make short ranged warp jumps and you can reposition for a minimum-range nova cannon shot in the middle of a brawl to finish off an enemy before diving back in.

TBH (as an imperium player) i expect nova cannons to recieve quite the nerf soonish, either a higher CD or a limited ammo count. I prefer the dominator but the luna and Tyrant are really good for some distance which the imperial navy lacks. The lances help make heavily armored ships easier to take down and add some guaranteed firepower.

Yeah that thing is nasty because it basicaly wins both at bombarding from range, and if the enemy tries to get close to avoid the nova cannon, you have the highest short range DPS guns, win/win basically.

i am running with 2 doimintors and they are awesome when targeting the same ship with nova cannons so recomand getting a second dominator thought the ship with the plasma batterys are pretty good too.

Using mass Tyrants, massive torpedo salvos make enemy order into mess, than in zero range fast recharge macrocannon fire at everything till death. Even if enemy far - plasmamacro still fire at em.

Tyrants with the upgrade to ignore armor at 3k or less are just NASTY to have waltz into your fleet.

Dont forget shield upgrade and friendly shield recharge... pair of them or paired with Overlord make out almost everything...

Because I'm not a great player, my vote also goes with the Dominator class. Nova cannons are a very useful crutch and they have great close range firepower in their macro cannon batteries.

I'm honestly not impressed with the Lunar cruiser at all. It tends to get destroyed in every CA vs CA fight first, while doing little damage becaues there's such a huge pause between salvoes. Aside from torpedoes and the Nova Cannon, Imperial macro cannons heavily favor close range engagements, and the Lunar's firepower is really lackluster there.

I'd rather have an Overlord-class BC, to be honest.

i'm actually working on figuring this out. Right now i'm busy sorting out the light cruisers, but once i'm done with that, i plan to move on to cruisers.

The dictator is definitely high on the list due to the nova canon, which atm seems a bit overpowered, especially coupled with is 2 macro canon batteries on each side.

On the other hand, the Tyrant has range 12K plasma batteries and can actually outrange most chaos vessels. The Lunar class has a good mix of lances and canons.

The gothic is horrible though. Stay away from it.

those 12k range cannons are horribly innacurate though, like 30-20% accuracy at 12k range without upgrades
Khronokrator Mar 12, 2016 @ 1:09pm
I usually give all of my Imperial cruisers the two upgrades for macro cannon range and for ignoring penalties. It doesn't help the Lunar much at all, because its broadsides are so weak and lances aren't very useful. Plus there's such a long pause between salvoes.

I'd still favor the Tyrant or the Dominator, probably.
