Lightning strike is 1 all around
Boarding is affected by number of turrets on enemy ship
Lightning strike is not
Also Lightning strike cannot work on ships with shields
Boarding parties don't give a ♥♥♥♥ either way
checking tooltips
boarding can go through shields
you get 2 "assault actions" with a normal boarding (I do believe you get a +1 from space marines favor)
you only get 1 "assault action" with a normal lightning strike (this is upgradable both with the teleportanium skill which gives +1, and another +1 can come from space marines favor)
Also I do believe the boarding ships can be shot by defense turrets lowering your success rates (and I believe shields also has an effect on success rates), so its best to not use boarding actions when ships are clumped close together.
there are not many ways of getting someone across the gap between 2 ships ^^
also another difference is the location they are "bound" to, lightning strike needs a shield generator to operate
boarding needs your ship not to be heavily damaged
i think you are confusing boarding torpedoes with something else
or what i'm thinking of and you are thinking of are both named the same
i'm talking about the torpedoes the orks used on the 3rd mission in campaign. since instead of dealing damage on impact that act like an assault shuttle from a carrier and do a boarding action
"Boarding Torpedoes are a cross between a torpedo and an assault boat that are used by many of the starfaring races. Instead of a large explosive, they deliver raiders into an enemy starship's interior." according to warhammer wikia
As for the actual question, I think it's been covered well, except nobody's mentioned the obvious one: Boarding has limited broadside-only range, while lightning strikes can be launched from further away, and in a full 360 degree radius around your ship.
These are different to the short-ranged boarding shuttles used for the Boarding Action ability.
In short, LC for Lightning strike upgrade, BC and BS for boarding.
