Escort Upgrades
What do people choose for their escort upgrades?

I'm currently using shield disruption and range increase for my Firestorm. Excellent for sitting at 9k keeping shields down while the big ships smack at each other. Armour piercing and extra Defence turrets for the Sword, allowing it to run around and infuriate carriers.

I can't seem to use the Cobra properly. Six points extra gets me a Lance or an extra turret plus twice the health.
The two torpedoes just don't seem to be worth it unless deployed en masse, and by that point why don't you just bring a Dauntless refit along...
No upgrades seem to fit the Cobra's role, and the increased speed and turn rate can be done with combat maneuvers.

Yeah the torpedo boats seem a little weak.

I suppose detection range could make them into scouts? fire control systems so they don't burn to death from one bording party?

HP padding so they can survive a nova shot?

As you can summon them for free with the navy favor, and as they are the cheapest escort for the imperials, you could just build them to be fodder to fill the skies with torpedos.

Ramming fodder? Turrets? Extra speed so you can fly around the map attacking carriers and annying the hell out of them? Upgrade the turret they get?

I dunno, as automating their torpedos isn't that great becuse the AI is bad at predictive fire.

I haven't used any other than sword escorts and I equiped them with the extra hullpoints extra shieldpoints and AP ammo to make them very annoying to take out.

Sounds pretty cool, I normally use the extra range skill along with improved radar or whatnot, allowing me to see the enemy fleet and dart back before they can see me.
