Now there are of course other factors to consider is the ship a Knife-Edge Brawler/Tank? or is it going to hang in the back and fire lances?
And of course finally there's fleet consideration, Orks for example, Hull Points (HP)+ is just flat out better because of the fact that in ideal combat situations, they're going to be close as much as possible, or ramming.
Assuming your ships last long enough for the shields to recharge you get more gain but if they tear your ships down before the recharge is complete then the gain is only equal to the hull points.
Shield regen rate reduce the recharge rate to 33 seconds. Now I let you do the math to see when its better :)
