Note, though, that that mission could be failed without too much consequences and in canon, Abaddon succeeded in seizing both artefacts. Those missions are made extra hard just to reflect the fact.
I already am powerful enough to do that, it's just that it's so relentless! If they targetted MY ships it would be easier to manage, right now they make a beeline for it and it's a pain in the...

And what did you do? Did you stay close to the inquisitor's ship or went hunting?
Like literally placing my ships so that they become shields. I've even rammed enemy ships just to give the inquisitor time to warp out.
Unfortunately this mission is extremely difficult and you're very likely to sacrifice ships just to barely succeed.
It's manageable... the third wave is really the problem, if the inquisitor actually used repair orders, it would be a lot less of a pain.
Why ramming? It damages you too
And to ram you just... try to intercept a ship's path? If I could take out the light cruisers quickly, I could easily wipe the escorts.
