And actually you can do that without the statis bomb also, works nearly as well. And on all factions.
You can recover the data from destroyed vessels. A small floaty capsule like thingy floats around and you just have to fly over it. I noticed it just by chance because there is no arrow pointing, HEY GET THIS xD. But still, i don't find this type of mission hard at all :S You can't just zerg and hope to get away with it. You are supposed to plan. Slow mo is there also for a reason ^^.
it takes a different built ship than what you might be more familar with, and early on in your admirals career can be difficult to deal with no matter what you do.
this ^ is how not to do data recovery..........
i often do and succeed in data recovery with far less boarding actions available than my opponent has, AND i use eldar to do it ( so i have NO shields to protect against the take ). Thats on attack as well btw, not through a run for 3 mins till i can warp as defense.
Timing is crucial, if your going to grab the data at the first oportuniy you can, your likely going to lose. You have to make sure that when you grab the data, you can defend it long enough to get out of range of the retake and warp asap. This is where your specialist built ship comes into it, you MUST HAVE decreased warp out time for crew, speed and shield recharge / bonuses.
I like to think about it like rugby ( or football as yanks call it ), and the moves that occur in such games translate well to BF:G on these missions. Its all about taking the ball at the right time, not just when you can, and defending it just long enough to get the point.
