I'm not sure what you mean here.. Eldar don't have void shields, but holofields. Most attacks don't pierce void shields to any degree. There's torpedoes and other ordnance which will ignore them, and Ulthwe's Maelstrom and Nurgle's warp fart that both bypass shields as far as I can tell, but not your normal auto-targeting weapons.
What comes to dealing with holofields, macro weapons are actually at a sizable advantage because even maxed out holofields don't defend against them as well as they do against lances. A (smaller) accuracy penalty versus a flat 80% chance to block lances.
A typo on my part, I edited it earlier.
This is what sparked the train of thought, of course. However some chaos turrets are labelled ambigiously as 'missile'. Different graphics ingame and different icon to other Chaos macro turrets. It role is pretty much indentical though. The question I was asking is are they, in fact, Macro turrets or treated differently?
Several Chaos ships carry them, often in addition to regular Macro Cannons and 'heavy' Macro Turrets. The smallest chaos escort doesn't have much going for it but it packs no less than six of the suckers. So, pretty important what applies to them and what doesn't.
If they were in fact a different weapon class entirely, holofields would provide no penalty to them and Macro skills would not apply their bonuses.
(Un)fortunately, according to Acidulant they are just a different flavour of Macro fire.
