escorts are extra they can be deadlyin groups. First few mission I don't take them just to get bonus renown but they have uses.
Arghhh I've exit to main menu every time fearing I lost something important.
And are there other missions where you lose ships from the script? If so, I hope they're "gift" ships, not ones you level...
Polite? What, you were about to call me names because I thought I could save that little guy?
Well you lose the level and renown you invested in them, no?
So if an escort is blown up at level 4, I'll have another at level 4 for next game?
escorts are expendable and as such they have no level. they can get upgrades but thats for everytime you pick that escort.
i can sacrifice 1000 escorts to the blood god. and still have the same upgrades on my next 1000 cannon fodder i mean escorts
Essentially yes. Escorts are free in that sense. They don't level up, though as your admiral goes up in level you can get some upgrades for them, and there's an infinite supply so no matter how many get badly damaged or destroyed you always have more.
You also shouldn't underestimate the humble escort. From the Widowmaker serving as a scout to the Firestorm (and against the Eldar, the Sword), they can bring some serious firepower for their size. I've had a few Firestorms fend off much larger Chaos ships straight back into the warp or they'd die in the fight. They're not replacements for bigger ships, but they can serve as some pretty fine support.
That depends on personal taste, I like pimping out my Firestorms a little because as said in my experience underestimating them is a quick way to a cold death in the void, but I can see wanting to save renown for your line ships instead too.
You are fine there is an endless supply of what ever escort your admiral is qualified to order.
And I have found escort upgrades very useful.
