Planetary Assault
Hey. I just got to the first planetary assault in the campaign and the orbital bombardment timers are just insane 1:30 to get to the other side of the map. I tried it twice with a dauntless on full ahead and I never even got close. As theses spots appear random your only option is to eather park ships in the corner or fight in the middle you have to have a ship with engine upgrades. I do realize tyou can win easily just killing off the enemy fleet, but I so wanted to bomb a planet this ired me to no end.

Anyone else had this problem?

not particularly Had a gothic and tyrant made it to the first three to complete. But I can see the randomness being a issue. but if you miss one I don't think its that big of a deal. it should just spawn another one after. it is a satisfying animation.

i prefer blowing up the enemy ships since thats alot faster than doing the actually mission.
through you can also split up your fleet to get a better chance one of your ships is near the spot

Tried the mission 5 times with Light Cruisers, think I made about 2 out of the 15 bombardments you can try. Ships with engine upgrades and the micro-warp jump ability still couldn't get close enough. Not to mention as you need to spread out your fleet, you simply get picked off one by one without even standing a chance. Gamemode sounded fun at first but now I just feel it's the dumbest idea ever as you can be unlucky (like me) and constantly get the spawns on the other side of the battlefield. And I think there's something wrong with the timers too. It's happened quite often for me that the countdown will still have between 20 and 30 seconds left and still it'll just tell me I failed to reach it in time...

sit in the middle of the map, when a spawn pops just throw ya fastest ship at it or blow the enemy out the sky lol

Yeah... that's what I expect of a hard Strategy-game... random appearing objective, that you more often than not cannot reach no matter what... I wonder what the designer of those missions does for a living...

And it can get even better after that - I remember playing a defesive mission against Chaos, and ofc. not only those bastards have faster ships, but targets were appearing literally right next to them. The fact that it was a joint strike mission (IN favor, if I recall) which means less ship points for me, didn't help.

There's a bug regarding that mision though, which can be used to player's favor - If an orbital strike is complete and you'll use repeat mission option from pause menu, the game remembers it. I remember I was playing as attacker, stuff went pretty bad even tho I managed to make 2 strikes. I restarted mission, managed to get to first bombardment location, and boom - win. Not sure if it will work with priority campaign mission, but you can try if everything fail.

Edit: just noted that post was originally from 2016. Welp.

It's just a crappy mission design. There is a high probability that your target placements will make it 100% impossible to reach at least some of your objectives in time. And in the story modes you are heavily outnumbered, supposedly balanced by the AI allies, who are completely worthless and are usually killed within 2-3 minutes of the match starting.

I appreciate that they were trying to give us more mission variety, but as is typical with GW-adaptations, they spent a lot of time building the models and not enough making sure the game was actually playable.
