no real noticeable bigger fleets
some even got smaller
there is a mode in skirmish that lets you have bigger fleets tho performance and ai performance suffers in it significantly
the boarding mechanic got simplified into irrelevance
carriers have charges and infinite range but the mechanics are ♥♥♥♥♥♥ into irrelevance unless every weapon in your fleet is a launch bay
also wouldnt call it more campaign as its just 1 campaign with less story copied twice
ai also got worse, often getting stuck or just completely giving up
or committing suicide by ramming or torping themselves
crits are still the mayority of the game in 2, except now there is less counterplay
armor also got changed into a damage reduction instead of the chance of damage negation
making the overabundance of crits even worse
2 also has more bugs, like a lot of ships being unable to fire at max range
once you get used to the mechanics the ork missions arnt that much of a treat either anymore
but honestly it was best as a pvp game, but neither game has an active playerbase anymore
so honestly, find a better game then both
its not a game i would advise to friends
buy if you have too much money and really want it, but its better to keep looking
the need to level up every faction to unlock skill choices?
no it doesnt, the renown system works very different then the grind introduced into 2
you need to level up each ship and put upgrades on every one
all upgrades are available from the start
but you need to level the ship to put them onto it
Boarding got expanded with your ships having a crew health bar. Which means boarding can now be used to actually kill ships instead of only inflicting crits.
Strike craft and torpedoes are more powerful, but have limited uses per battle.
things that any escort can revive cant really be called dead
its 2 crits, thats the maximum crits can now do and you basically need to kill the ship to do it
then it recrews and repairs and nothing happened
call to arms is a noob trap and anyone with any experience knows it, thats how important boarding is in 2
in 1 its a viable strategy for orks and marines
in 2 its only usable for dark eldar, even tyranids should just ignore it exists
similarly, you needed skill to dodge strike craft in 1, using detection and your orders carefully
in 2 the only thing you need to ignore ordnance is press boost
even battleships can outrun strikecraft for minutes
enjoy stutterstep in BFG, yay strcraftlikes that works so great for rts games
if any of them land on you, you should just admit you are bad
but its nice vs the braindead ai i guess
Space marines can knock out battleships in half a minute. And they have so many boarding abilites that they can keep them down, then board any ships trying to revive the first target. And it's almost impossible to stop.
And making cruisers run away with one or two squadrons of strike craft is a perfectly good trade in my book.
ps: recrewed ships have full morale, so any moral damage you did with boarding is easily made useless
not that morale really matters with how many counters the mechanic has
