but if you are going to restrcit to campaign only, no, not really
there are missions with marine allies, but you get them wheter you get the DLC or not
they are part of the story justification of the marine favor for imperial ships
skirmish mode has a persistend lvling that is very similar to the campaign and every faction plays very differently so try it and see if you want to check that out with those factions too
just no story
There is a single player of sorts as others have mentioned. You basically go through missions like the campaign and level up your ships and captains but, just w/out a galaxy map or a story.
