Capcom is adding DRM Enigma Protector to their back catalog of games.
Capcom is adding DRM Enigma Protector to their back catalog of games.

This prevents modding, prevents the use of cheat engine in single player games, and reduces performance by up to 10-15 fps with stutters.

As such I will never buy any capcom games on all PC platforms going forward.

Is this crap the reason I just lost all my data? My game wasn't even modded.

Yeah, this can be verified from SteamDB as well:

Public depot was updated 5 years ago. However, there is a "lizhf9z8cgbn" depot that was updated 24 days ago. This is probably the Enigma Protect update, but it hasn't been made public yet (as indicated by the arrow icon).

I checked other Mega Man games and they have similar depots:

So nothing is save I guess. I'll be sure to uninstall the games and not buy them on PC anymore or maybe not even at all. Very sad but I am voting with my wallet, as everyone else should as well!

What a damn shame, Capcom seemed to finally be turning things the past few years with (mostly) good games, stopped treating their PC customers as 3rd class citizens, and mostly cut out the shady nonsense. Seems like they've gotten cocky and are going back to their old ways. I bought this to have legal copies of the classic games, but I guess I'll be playing off of different versions.

Also it suddenly makes perfect sense why Capcom never wanted to sell on Good Old Games, not even their ancient arcade stuff.

i think thats only an excuse ("we want to prevent cheating" bs) but in reality is a way to prevent the new woke changes in their games from becoming fixing by modders, like what happened recently in street fighter 6 with the spy family character that looks completely different and ugly.

Doing a bad job on a cheap cash-grab of a character model has nothing to do with "wokeness". Jesus, "wokeness" really is the modern boogyman, you'll just blame everything on it.

Not that I can even blame Capcom for it, the SpyxFamily art style just does not work with Street Fighter's current art, at all.

Pretty sure console versions should be unaffected by this, at least. Personally I have the games on the Switch, there's no drawback and you get the whole collection translated 1/1 on a portable device.
DRM is ALWAYS wrong. There need to be laws that stop this nonsense. I think it's high time all IP laws are gutted so companies can't pulls stunts like this anymore. If someone wants to "steal their work", the customers can decide whose version deserves backing. Companies need to get knocked down and the societal expectation should return to customers over investors. Deregulation, corporatism, and investor hyperfocus have killed just about everything touched. Time to warm up the emulators, lads. If they add DRM, I'm demanding a refund, and this is one of the things that can get a refund after the normal windows close.

So is Enigma actually in the game now? I will have to uninstall and not play the thing I bought. Never again Capcom.
