- The Yellow Devil's weakness is the Thunder Beam from Elec Man.
- He can only be hit in the eye when he's fully formed, and only once per round (unless you use the pause glitch).
- His pattern are identical every round, so it can be memorized.
- Just ignore any flying blocks that comes flying above your head
- Make a small/medium height jump over all the blocks coming at your height, but see next tip
- The fourth jump each round is two blocks coming towards you, you want to make one long high forwards jump that takes you over both blocks.
- If you're at full health it takes seven hits from his blocks or shot to kill you, it also takes you seven hits from the Thunder Beam to kill the Yellow Devil.
- Don't Panic! If you can do just ONE flawless round, you can allow yourself to be hit once during every other round.
- Make a save state just before the fight with the Yellow Devil. The worst part of fighting him as a kid was that I had to do the whole stage all over again every time i game overed on the Yellow Devil.
Just wait until you see the Shadow Devil
You're probably trying to use either the MMLC menu pause or the MM1 weapons menu pause, and not the actual MM1 pause function. There's a dedicated button you have to assign in the controls menu for the actual MM1 pause function, IIRC.
