Difference: Originals vs Roms vs Legacy Collection

As a 1981 kid, this blue bomber was great and ive played every Mega Man to the end....ok, this Network was too bad and i stopped and X7 wasn´t that good either, but thats another story.

Recently ive found the motivation to play through all Mega Men again and now im asking myself, which version should i play?
The NES/SNES cartridges (Yes i have some of them ^^), free downloading rom and play on PC or should i buy this Legacy Collections?

What justifies a buy of the Legacy over plugin my NES/SNES or download a rom? Are there any big differences?

The main addition of Legacy Collection is a set of 54 challenges where they stitched together various segments from the games. You have to complete them in a certain amount of time to earn a Bronze/Silver/Gold medal. Your run gets uploaded to their servers and leaderboard, and you can watch other peoples' runs from the leaderboard; however, you have to go through a lot of the "top" leaderboard entries until you can find the first legitimate non-hacked run.

And there's an art gallery that showcases official production art.

There's also a "turbo mode" that eliminates the NES-accurate slowdown you get when a lot is happening on the screen; I believe some emulators have this feature too, but I don't know how well they work compared to Legacy Collection (it works pretty well here, from what I've seen). Sadly, there is no sprite flicker removal in Legacy Collection (most emulators have this feature).

Mesen and Nestopia UE are a couple of the best NES emulators currently.

As for the second collection (Legacy Collection 2 that has MM7~10), I would advise against buying that: it has DRM that locks you out of playing unless you are connected to the Internet. Definitely go the emulator/rom route for that one.

I'm pretty sure Legacy Collection 2 is the only collection with the online-only problem. I've heard that it was NOT actually intended to be online-only, and that it's because of a bug in the way the developers implemented the Steam API; they just never bothered to fix it for some stupid reason. I hope they fix it one day.

Plain Steamworks, badly implemented so the game fails to run if Steam is offline, even if it was just run online a moment ago. Denuvo is actually a lot more forthcoming when there is a validation failure than MMLC2's behavior of crashing and dying.

Probably useless to say now but I would recommend against buying the X Collection or the 2nd Legacy Collection because of censorship. It's very minor so I'm sure nobody but me cares, but I'm just tired of companies sneaking these completely unnecessary censors into re-releases.
The DRM in Legacy Collection 2 is more of an actual reason to not buy it, even if it was unintentional, still pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥ to then not do anything about it.

And I think these collections are just a good option for people that didn't own the games before, and it's just a convenient way to have access to them all.
But if you already bought them all before I don't see why you should have to pay for them again, just use one of those forbidden e-words.

Probably because Capcom freaked out by the Famicoms in the background of Junk Man's stage in Mega Man 7 and removing them was enough for someone to condemn the game entirely.

As someone that owns an NES a CRT and the games.
100% play on original hardware.
There is so much input lag in the legacy collection it isn't even funny.

i agree with Ridley, it's input lag central across all the mega man collections (not sure about ZX and megaman legacy 2). X deserved better as well. I think I only got this because it was a dollar in some mega man humble bundle
