...The disappearing platforms and Yellow Devil are the worst parts of Mega man 1?
M'kay, so the platforms are annoying, and the Yellow Devil is near impossible to defeat legitimately. But can I take a moment to rant on some of the other things in this game that drove me so much further to insanity?

First, those floating platforms in Iceman's stage with guns strapped to their heads. Without the magnet beam, that is about ten times as tricky. Screwing up on the disappearing platforms at least didn't kill you instantly if you were knocked off. No offense to anybody, but I've never understood why the blocks are so infamous when all it takes is rhythm, and when less than 100 yards down the road you have to worry about precision platforming, knockback, and instant death.

What about the other bosses in Wily's castle? Ignoring the clone of Mega Man, anyway. First of all, that last boss rush. Bomb man is easy, but Fire man's pattern is so ludicrous that I could never kill him without losing a large chunk of my health. Ice man's attack is much more easy to follow, but if I ♥♥♥♥ up once, I'm left with next to no health, if any. That leaves Guts man, who can easily stunlock you long enough to finish you off. This all wouldn't have been tolerable if Fire man could be killed just slightly more quickly. But the thing is, I wasn't sure if Ice man's attack was his weakness or not for a while, since it only does slightly more damage than the buster. For comparison, Elecman's attack completely destroys Ice man in less than five seconds. Why have the boss who is much more harder to avoid take less damage from his so-called weakness?

Then there are the others, namely both of Wily's forms and that thing in the water. There's one thing that makes these just so intolerable, and that's how their projectiles can just straight up be invisible. I get it, NES, hardware limitations, faithful remakes, etc. but did anyone miss sprite overload? By themselves, the Yellow Devil is strictly harder than the rest, to the point where it can be said to be poorly designed, but at least you could see everything that was coming at you, on top of being able to exploit your way past him. With Wily and company, sometimes all you can do is guess where an attack is coming from, and to my knowledge, there's no way around it.

I'm just miffed at Mega Man 1. Someone please tell me that 2 and onward don't have these issues. I recall playing 2 and 3 on an emulator some time back, and I'm sure I'd remember the graphical hiccups being this bad. Are they?

The Yellow Devil is very easy to defeat legit. His blobs move in the exact same pattern every time. It's just tedious and takes awhile (especially if you are doing it Buster-only, as the eye will sometimes appear too high for you to reach).

Yes, the Foot Holders on Iceman's stage and Wily Stage 1 are the most BS part of the game. They're bugged out. You can be standing perfectly still on top of one and all of sudden you somehow get hit by the bullet underneath, or you jump from one to the other you somehow clip through and get hit. It's random. Not to mention sometimes they'll keep moving in such a way as to keep you stranded on the same one for an unreasonable amount of time. I don't blame anyone for using the Magnet Beam in these parts, and I'll still count it as Buster-only. Those buggy-a.ss Foot Holders are just random b.ullshit and have nothing to do with skill.

Fireman is easy. When the fight starts, jump forward and shoot at the same time a couple times until Fireman's sort of in the corner, and then just keep jumping straight up and shooting at the same time. If you did it right, you'll be hitting him while you jump over his shots and the little flame that's usually left over underneath will disappear before you land. It's kind of awkward to explain with just words.

I don't think the "invisible projectile" thing is anywhere near as bad as you are making it out to be. I've played through these games dozens and dozens of times (once just recently) and I don't recall ever feeling cheated because of "invisible projectiles". But yes, there is certainly much sprite flickering, slowdown, etc. in 2~6. I think MM3 has the most frequent and downright brutal slowdown in the series. Also, I think 3~6 has this weird thing where sometimes a couple of your controller inputs will be ignored. I think it has something to do with boss projectiles and/or slowdown.

You seem to have more RL in your Megaman daily life.

Confession: I cried as a kid with those ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ floating platforms...

The first game seems to be by far the hardest and most frustrating.

Disppearing platforms, eh. It would be unbearable if they threw you into the deep end with spikes right under them at the onset, but the difficulty curve is fair. The first several times, you just fall and try again until you get the hang of it. Yellow Devil isn't nearly as bad as people have been saying for decades (even without the old pause trick).
