"Landing" on Planets
Hi,

I know Devs already said they don't intend to bring planet landing this time, but what if we could fake it using the present game mechanics? Let me explain: we could "teleport to surface" instead of "landing".

In order to do so, we would need first to orbit a planet. This would be achieved by approaching a planet into a certain range. Then in the cockpit we would see a button somewhere reading "Stablish Orbit". Clicking there would keep our ship in place while we beam down and would allow us to "see" planet bases in planet's surface (more about this below). It would be awesome if a ship really moved around that planet too.

Once in orbit, the teleport console would show aditional places to beam to. These would be surface bases (randomly generated). Once we teleport down, we would be taken to these stations, which would be like their space counterparts, but in the surface. Through the windows we would be able to see an exterior surface environment, but it would be just "window dressing", since we wouldn't be able to leave stations by now - but keeping it open for future possibilities. Besides surface bases, we could find caves to teleport and explore too.

These surface bases (and caves) could also be direlict settlements, with the exact same gameplay as the one suggested in my post "Turning lights off / direlict stations".

Another purpose for this stations could be mining the planet's atmosphere resources from its surface, in "mining bases" which would spawn with an extractor. This suggestion would replace the present "mining atmosphere from space" idea, which seems a bit unrealistic.

Thanks! ;)

I would much rather the team ignore planet landing altogether and focus on space!

Landing mechanics are cool, but the IR team just doesn't have the dev time to work on it right now.

All of the mechanics you could do on a planet can be done by orbiting stations, and IMO it makes more practical sense for these activities to happen at space stations than on the planet's surface.

Agree with Medi. Still got many to fix and to add in space.
