Warp Power Requirements
In the ship editor, what does "Warp Power Requirement" mean? In the screenshot below, the warp power requirement is 6,004/t for a 278K mass ship. When I use the formula given on the Wiki and on a warp guide in this forum (below) I get anywhere from 278/t at Warp 1 to 2,780/t at Warp 10, but far below the 6,004/t shown in the editor. Is there a new warp formula or am I misunderstanding how to calculate this?

WarpLevel * (50 + shipMass / 1000)

The last update overhauled the warp formula. The one in the guide and wiki are probably outdated. Warp consumes considerably more power now than it used to, but as a trade off sub-light travel consumes far less power. The number displayed in the editor is the amount of power your ship consumer per tick. All warp levels now cost the same amount of power.

Ah thank you. Found the notes in 1.49.

- Reworked warp power usage:
Warp power requirement: ship mass / 45;
charge between warp level power cost to 1.5x the mass of the ship in power (45k mass = 67.5k power)

no, the warp levels arent cost the same amount, when you hover the mouse over the warp consumption (this is the minimum req. for the warp) the maximum consumption is displayed too

Warp LEVELS all cost the same, the second number displayed in the editor is for a fully loaded ship, calculated by if all pads were loaded with the heaviest material/items in the game.

No matter if your ship is fully loaded or not, flying at warp 1 takes the same amount of power as flying at warp 9.

It was fine the way it was...why the change?

I feel like every single update is making the game slightly worse...:(
Wish i could get a refund...

Yes, youre right. After all that patches in the past 2 years the game is so much worse than it ever was....omg..
/irony off

The devs heavily simplyfied the warp power calculation, which is very helpful when you design the power specs for a ship. I doubt its a reason to hyperventilate =)

oh yes bug fixes is totally what i was talking about...seriously? a little common sense goes a long way

The way it was, was unbalanced and made no sense. warp power was borderline free, while flying at sublight would require 10x the amount of power. we flipped the scales so flying at sublight is much cheaper than flying at warp.

The biggest fear for me is getting rid of the possiblity to even have a mobile factory ship at all. As things move forward it feels like less and less is possible with your ship. Offtopic slightly...the strip miner is nearly even on how much power it takes compared to how much hydrogen you can mine with it. Making mining hydrogen with it a complete waste of time and useless.

The strip miner is designed to be used with a nuclear reactor.

Why have any Rich astroids with hydrogen at all then? The smart ones build automation for hydrogen near space stations. You have uranium based Rich astroids that ARE worth it. It just makes no sense. Seems like Rich hydrogen is pointless. Just extract it normally?

you can sell hydrogen to players who do not yet have a nuclear reactor. or may not need or want a ship that needs a nuclear reactor.

First of all, there are no hydrogen asteroids, you mean water. Second, you still make a profit energy/resourcewise by mining those, with a strip miner.

If you want to be min/max about if, find the material you can mine for the least energy versus the highest profit.

Currently, comparing hydrogen to deuterium, you still make a profit refining hydrogen rather than deuterium, although the latter may have a better demand on trade stations.

Yeah Ziron you've gone off-topic for sure. Mining is viable, no matter extractors or stripminers. "factory" ships are still viable, no matter the power source. I really don't get what you're whinging about, beyond your own ignorance.

Common sense would be if you would be more objective towards your personal believes instead of being overwhelmingly certain that some game mechanic - that doesnt feel particularly enticing to you - must be plain bad. You dont like it - Devs make he game worse - all the time. Thats just plain being critical instead of critical thinking.

Nuclear power is a viable option but realistically like everything in the game 2-3 people are going to succeed were solo fails, people logging in every day asking to join crews. Get them on voice comms then take them out into space to get started.
