Lore wise Bastard's Wound is what you are looking for, as it adds a number of quests and a new location to explore. Although it can be difficult to traverse due to the bugs if you aren't aware of them ahead of time, like avoiding any murals until you're told to look at them.
If possible try to find steamkeys for the DLC somewhere else where they are cheap or wait for a potential sale here or on the Paradox sites. The game is nearing 5 years old and hasn't had any significant support or acknowlegement of the lingering issues, so just be aware of that going in.
Feel free to ask around for advice on quests or just to discuss the lore/setting of Terratus. It's a great game and stands among my favorite RPGs.
Long Answer: I don't do the DLC story missions for a variety of reasons I won't go into. Tales from the Tiers, which adds random encounters is nice, though I think you get that automatically. I have the other DLC, but I never start them or the companion quest (not hard since I don't use Verse or Barik typically).
Don't get the DLC that has story based PDFs, they were obviously written by non-native English speakers, with large grammatical errors. The soundtrack is similarly lackluster.
If you can't afford them now, get the base game and enjoy. The beauty of this game is that it has multiple replays just begging to be done, so if money frees up later, you can enjoy them then. Enjoy.
If somehow in the future there is a sequel to this game, i might consider to buy dlc later.
For now i'm gonna buy the base game.
Again thanks and stay safe
