Is the game really unfinished? (no spoilers)
Reviews say this game stops abruptly, feeling like developers ran out of money and sold what they had. Is that true? And if yes, do DLCs add the rest of the game for a satisfying ending? (no spoilers, please)

Like most rpgs the 3rd act feels short and ... lackluster.

However, the story itself ends on a perfect note, and the DLC adds a second option that should have been included from the start.

I think the latter part of the game just needed one more big dungeon, for pacing purposes. There are a few pretty hefty dungeons, but not all of them are part of every playthrough depending on the choices you make, and none of them are part of the final act.

I wouldn't say the ending itself is abrupt, though. It's the culmination of all you've done, and I can't see how they could've kept going without literally starting straight into the sequel.

The game was specifically designed for multiple playthroughs (it changes a lot), so that's at least part of why it's shorter. Doesn't really stint on content but you can't see everything in one run.

Well, it's abandonware, but it ends in exactly the way the devs wanted it to end, so in terms of story it's not really unfinished, no. Some people find it unsatisfying because they expected it to be like every other RPG that has an evil overlord who has taken over the world, but it's not. This game does things on its own terms.

True.

Игра выглядит законченной, но брать её без ДЛС не советую.
В основной игре создаётся ощущение недостатка контента.
ДЛС добавляют его, но всё равно кажется чего-то не хватает.

They certainly didn't bother to fix the localisation, having the word "stolen" all over the place. Item flavor texts are shown twice. Polished is something else.

What you describe seems to be a "bug", not only "polishment". What a shame.

It's finished! You should play it with the DLC, it's great! One of my fav games!

The game is made of branching decisions that give the game depth, but not length. Thus some find it too short because they were expecting one long linear path, instead of many (many) shorter paths.

The DLC adds to the game and I encourage that you play it. Just know that it is optional and comes with a few bugs.

Side-note: the "stolen" is not a localization thing. I'm in the USA, where the game was made, and we experience it. The "stolen" is due to a patch that came about a year after the game was made, after the Obsidian/Paradox divorce. It's a bug. :kyros:

Which DLC exactly? There are a few.

Bastard's Wound is the only major story DLC. It's a decent chunk of gameplay that integrates into the game before the ending, though you can come back and add it pretty much any time. It's good on lore. Bring Kills-in-Shadows and maybe Lantry.

Tales from the Tiers is mostly random narrative encounters added to overland travel, but those encounters do flesh out some of the companions and factions a bit, lots of banter and skill checks. I'd say it's worth it at the current sale prices, though it probably would've been better to package it with something bigger (like Bastard's Wound). Glad we have it, though.

The other DLC is more just cosmetic/collector's edition stuff.

It's not unfinished per say, but several plot-lines and lore mysteries are left unresolved, most likely intended as material for sequels. As far as the Tiers are concerned the plot is complete, but the larger narrative of the nature of power and magic in Terratus is not. I think it's pretty clear that they had a sequel in mind judging by the ending.

The Bastard's Wound is quite important to flesh out some characters and lore, as some companions need the dlc to complete their plot-lines. However be warned that the dlc is quite buggy, save often and on different slots as bugs can prevent you from finishing the dlc story.

I would say that most likely we can refer to it as unfinished in the sense that you will probably want more after you finish the game but it's unlikely that we will ever see a sequel. I would still recommend the game tho, the story and setting is great and tries stuff you don't see too often, the atmosphere to this game is quite unique.

It seems that the game has been rushed and abandoned full of bugs and unfinished stories.

You make it sound worse than it is, but what you're saying is quite close to the truth. Don't expect a polished game with a story that closes off everything in a neat bow.

I think as it is, it will probably be enjoyed more by jaded rpg veterans that want something different from the standard fare and are willing to put up with grime to get it.

This was a finished game all the years back when it released. I dont see why you would claim otherwise. There are no major bugs and personally I do not remember any bugs at all.

Funny enough I think the release version had a lot less bugs than the current one. I remember playing it on release too (but didn't finish it) and all was fine. I replayed it recently with the DLCs and even though I dodged most of the major bugs I still ran into quite a few more minor ones. Some routes through the game seem to be more bugged than others tho.

Ok I finished this after release playing the "good" way and now I play it after all the years trying a different approach lets say "lawful evil" so far Im act 2 and no bugs.
