The types of magic you can learn include Ice, Lightning, Vigor (heals and buffs), Entropy (debuffs), and I believe also Fire, but I didn't see it in the Day9 stream.
You get a fire based spell after making a particular choice during conquest mode.
Well, judging by the screenshots & videos... I'd say the world doens't look ENTIRELY barren, but I see little hint of the lush forests of Pillars of Eternity or BG2, so perhaps you shouldn't hope for too much.. :p
yeah... well maybe in dlc or something then :)
- Barik: Sentinel, Punisher

You can also acquire abilities in the following additional ways: Spell Creation and Artifacts. Also you can gain abilities through favor/wrath with factions which fall under Reputation Abilities. And you can gain abilities through favor/fear with companions with fall under Combo Abilities. The only way in which the game is classless is the Skill Progression system, Spells, and Weapons. A mage could use a sword. Or a warrior could use a staff and a spell. Spells have a Lore Skill requirement. I'm not sure on the Weapon requirements though, if it's Skill Level or Attribute based or none at all.
