No more Good vs Evil... now it's Order vs Chaos... is this progress?
I've just bought the game, so I haven't seen much yet, but here's what's standing out already:

The selling point for Tyranny is that there's no cheesy "Good vs Evil" plot, right? You play a morally grey Fatebinder who must make decisions with no clear right answers. Sounds good so far. But then you have the two factions, the Scarlet Chorus and the Disfavored, who sort of represent "Chaos vs. Order" (and ever in-game decision seems to effect your reputation with these groups)
Now, okay, Chaos vs Order might be a little more interesting than Good vs Evil, because both can be toxic is large amounts. Too much Chaos, and you get a savage world where the strong bully the weak. Too much Order, and you get a totalitarian society where people have no freedom.

However, it kind of disappoints me that they abandon the old G vs E dynamic just to put in another blatantly obvious BINARY system.

We went from this:

A mongrel accosts your hero in the street. What will you do?
a) Save the dog (good)
b) Kick the dog (evil)

To this:

A mongrel accosts your hero in the street. What will you do?
a) Slay the foul beastie for the glory of Group A!
b) Recruit the foul beastie for the prosperity of Group B!

It's still just a blatantly obvious binary system! Is this really progress? What do you guys think?

There are actually more than 2 choices in this game.
I chose The 'foul beastie' is actually a good and loyal dog in need of rescue from the two opressive idiots.

There is a fourth option as well, I beleive.

There's usually way more than two options. Early on I guess it's kind of a tutorial so you might be more limited but depending on which side you pick, sometimes your skills and some other step you might have taken in the story, it's far from simply Order or Chaos.

Your job is to keep Order, so in a way it will always be related to that but there are a good amount of grey options that won't force you in either direction.

Please, no spoilers (or, at least mark them as such). Thanks. :diplomacy:

In the overall plot there are actually 4 main primary paths, not just the Chorus/Disfavored.

In individual decisions there are many more, you can many times split the difference, negotiate a compromise, or tick off every party, or try to slime up to everyone, or sometimes find an alternate solution entirely based on your history/character/loyalties/stats.

Unfortunately for much of the game your choice of these alternatives is dictated by which side you picked earlier.

Actually I've discovered 4 options so far:

1) Disfavoured: A well organized army loyal to eachother and to Kyros. I don't find these guys very evil. They have some beliefs which may morally not really be good, but it is war after all.

2) Chorus: These guys are not just chaotic, they're just evil.

3) Rebels: This is probably what most people would see as good because they are defending from the invaders. They don't seem to have much evil in them

4) Yourself: Just take all power for yourself and do what you want.

Can anyone confirm this is correct?

You're going to fight Kyros eitherway since you are the promised champion hero that can, even if you remain consistently loyal and faithful to the Laws of Kyros. Also after digging around a bit in the console and code enjoy your cut content DLC/expansion.

Yeah, more or less, though I would also mention that the Disfavoured are very much racist and don't give a fig for what happens to the civilians because they're not Northern, while the Chorus are very much equal opportunity evil. Also, the rebels are a bunch of ♥♥♥♥♥ for constantly fighting each other right up to the moment that Kyros' forces wiped their feet on their doormats.

Also: rebels are basically sexist aholes (women > men) and only nobles can lead (while it seems Kyros regime is a bit more meritocratic).

i've already made the point that law and chaos are meaningless terms, that describe the properties of good and evil. refutations were feeble, at best. human deviance uses linguistics to attempt the justification of it's ineptness.

Scarlet Chorus may look chaotic and evil, but... But when you play on their side you can find them far more diplomatic and less kill all the enemies.
They do not agree about Disfavored scorched earth and collective responsibilty policies when it comes to Tiers population.
And i was actualy surprised when i heard about people been slaves and soldiers now, to fight and protect the land, for them to be able to live on that soil later when the war ends.
They also do not realy tolerate marauding, rape and vantom killing for long. Eventualy more stable elements of the Chorus cull more deranged.
They also have the laws about protecting weak. There was a whole thing about certain gang members killing their leader, because he abused the weakest girl in the band. And there was another case of a gang needing to feed and equip the underaged member without puting him on any work.
Offcourse Voices of Nerat is mad, absolutely psychotic schisophreniac, but he also has brilliant mind and ability to plan for the future.
