Does Dauntless get any better?

[PotD] So I find this Dauntless 1H sword, supposedly a powerfull artefact. I give it to Barik. Colour me unimpressed.

He's been currently using a 2H axe named Sever. This weapon hurts people. It does about twice the damage that Dauntless does when you take into account damage reduction through armour etc.

So Dauntless has this 1-per-rest ability to stun enemies within 5m for 5.6 sec, delay one attack basically. WOW! I can hardly contain my exitement.

Talk about weak sauce. But I notice that it has a bar that goes up to 5 (and I've only got the first bit for now) so......presumably you got to use the damn thing to move the bar along, so what effect does that have on the damage output or other abilities of this supposed super-weapon?

Dont know for certain, but it seems like usually artifact levels increase something to do with the enchantment the item has, so probably a longer stun as you level it up.

Mine is maxed out. You can see your level and what influenced it in the reputations menu. Mine says "defeated a powerful enemy x2, killed a foe with a crit x15, used your artifact's power, equiped a powerful artifact".
Maxed out the activated effect is "aoe stunned for 4s, 37-50 arcane dmg (base 34-46) (x1 primary weapon".
I used it for a while on my dual-wielder untill i found something better to use. Still have it "equiped" in my second weapon set (which i don't use) so i can use the activated ability... once per rest...

What quality are the swords? Being an artifact usually only give an one use per rest ability but does not seems to force it to be masterwork, you might need to upgrade it in the forge if you like the ability, otherwise there's not really a point in using the artifact unless it also gives a passive stat bonus like the Sunlance. (But most are On Crit bonuses.)

Thanks for the heads up. I asked becasue I didn't want to have Barik slogging away with a 1H when I really want him using 2H (he's got more skill in 2H anyways) when the end result wasn't worth it.

Really that bonus ability is pathetic IMO.

1h artifact weapons are pretty weak, except for the one you get at the end...(but at that point the game is pretty much over). There's a 1h hammer titan's...something in the Blade Grave area. That's pretty much the best one hander I found. 2h artifacts are better though so... yea.
