Why does this game make my CPU heat up to 98 celcius?
I have an Asus laptop and with some games its normal to have such CPU temperature, I get that for example if I play the old GTA 4. But with games like Fallout New Vegas or Wargame Red Dragon it never goes above 70 celcius. So why would a game like Tyranny need so much CPU usage to cause it constantly be 98 C?

No idea why you went sour, this discussion is obviously displeasing you so I'll take my leave. My interest has faded anyways.

Thanks for not mentioning cars for a 3rd time.

I had an Asus laptop, on which I play a college radio show. It started having audio problems, and finally the headphone jack was the culprit. The headphone jack, BTW, is the first thing in a laptop to fail. I ended up getting a refurbished HP EliteBook, which cost $1200 four years ago, refurbished from Amazon for $200. It is by far the best-built laptop I have ever owned. It came with an i5 and Win10 on it, so, naturally, I wiped the disk and installed Ubuntu MATE, and it flies.

I'm on every Sunday afternoon, 3-6 PM EST, and I play older, LOUD rock, punk and soul.

Tune in at https://www.wcniradio.org.

We can also be heard on I Heart Radio and TuneIn.

No, HP laptops are not good for games at all, though HP do have good customer support, but I would rather have a decent laptop so I would not need to contact support at all.

Yes, while I do agree and appreciate your effort when you write so much and go offtopic I and others tend to skip sentences while reading.

Anyway if its only this game thats causing it for him then it gotta be something in the settings. Maybe he's talking BS I mean at 98c it would burn your lap or whatever its standing on. Would probably start to melt too.

Oh and I think you misread Acer for ASUS.

I have a bunch of laptops with Windows 98 around as well xD
No, I can post a screenshot of my SpeedFan which will show CPU temperature. It could of course be faulty detectors that give an exaggerated reading. I had an Alienware 10 years ago and the video card would at one point reach 115 Celcius if I did not clean the fans for a long time, still it would work and nothing burned when it was on my desk.

I'm having the same problem - I couldn't even get past the intro cutscene without my PC (not a laptop) overheating and shutting down, even after reducing the graphics settings. Finally made it work after cleaning off my heatsink, fans, and intake vents, running the fans ful-blast, and setting up an external fan to blow on it, also full blast. And even then it runs uncomfortably hot. Something is definitely wrong with this game, none of my others are even remotely this bad. Good thing I waited until the free weekend to try this one out; I definitely wouldn't want to purchase it until they make some serious optimizations that won't fry my PC.

I'm mostly using the HP laptop to do my radio shoe. I have installed Domonions5, Planescape:Torment (which plays on tablets), and one or two other ones. I would think that it would do better than you say it dould. It does have a Sandy Bridge i5, And Sandy Bridge isn't THAT terrible.

The last patch this game had was over twelve months ago. The devs have released an entirely new game and the publishers who pushed for this game haven't pushed for updates in a long time.

I'd like to compare my CPU temp to others in this thread but my (hand built) desktop PC has no temp sensor on or near the CPU, is there such a thing as an "add on" temp guage for people like me? Or another way of determining the temp?
Intel Core i5-3570K CPU @ 3,40GHz, 16.0GB RAM, AMD Raedon HD 7900 Series (~ 5 yrs old)

i did notice my fans getting a bit noisy in one of the maps. no idea why.
try toning down the effects and limit your fps maybe?

All current BIOS have a temperature display for CPU. It's illegal for a manufacturer to make a MOBO that doesn't have the ability to detect CPU temps. As the CPU fans rely on such temp sensors to determine RPM's to prevent a fire.

Most companies now provide a desktop bios program that doesn't require you to restart and open before the OS. If you have an MSI board it's called ClickBIOSII, for example.

cap fps to 40 lol, and undervolt the CPU, or better yet, fix your cooling, open it up and dust it out, unclog the fans, and if you really want it fixed proper, get a screwdriver ready and apply new and better thermal paste, should be good as new, or even better than new

also, it seems like Tyranny is actually able to use 3-4 cores properly, can't think of any other game I've played that does that

I already fixed my cooling as much as I can and cleared the dust from fans. I am not skilled enough to apply new thermal paste, but I had a repair shop do it for me. I have V Sync enabled already for Tyranny, what difference would it have if I cap FPS to 40?

The lower the framerate the less memory and processing your gpu uses, which means less heat generated for your entire system.

Yes I know, but does not having V Sync enabled have the same effect?
