Why does this game make my CPU heat up to 98 celcius?
I have an Asus laptop and with some games its normal to have such CPU temperature, I get that for example if I play the old GTA 4. But with games like Fallout New Vegas or Wargame Red Dragon it never goes above 70 celcius. So why would a game like Tyranny need so much CPU usage to cause it constantly be 98 C?

No its not dangerous, I am using an Asus laptop and its always been that hot with some games from the day I bought it. I am definitely not running anything else, but I did hear that most games with Unity engines are badly optimised.

OK, well, I have never seen higher than 75 C on my desktop, FWIW.

Yeah desktops tend to be much better with cooling. On most laptops I had, as long as nothing is more than 100 C then its fine.

i have an ASUS rog laptop that used to run at 89-90 degrees

i tuned down the voltage using the ASUS tweak app and now its only hits like 81 degrees max on intense games. No performance hit. It was a beefy system (a year ago anyway)

I have been considering getting a rog laptop. Are they good and durable despite the heat? Right now I have a 4 year old Asus, not a rog type but was quite good with most games when it came out. All games I tried so far worked fine except Fallout 4. Are you sure its not making anything worst if you tune down the voltage like that? I prefer not to mess with those things as I don't know the consequences.

Ok for one thing 98 is Not normal. I don't care if thats what it was like straight out of the box it still isnt normal. Anything above 90 for prolonged periods can and will shorten the lifespan/damage surrounding components. This game uses more cpu than gpu so it tends to run quite hot but with those tempratures you may want to see if you can access your bios and boost fan speed and possibly limit the cpu if frames are still ok. Short of that if it isn't too much of an inconvinence you may want to get a cooling platfom for you laptop (don't cheap out on one however).

How are you coolng your CPU?

Its been like that for 4 years, and for laptops its not uncommon, I had other laptops and they did the same thing. I heard that as long as its below 100 Celcius it should not be dangerous for CPU. I have a cooling pad, it helps a bit by reducing the temperature by 3 or 4 Celcius.

Game a very CPU intensive.

Might be fps limit, set it to 60.

Ah yes but quite often when people mean dangerous is when its at its absolute maximum. past 100 the board starts to melt. Not always fast but as a rule of thumb 90 is safe max 100 is absolute max and 98 is VERY close.

There's a difference between safe and normal. While it may be "safe" under 100, it's certainly not normal. And anything not normal is going to shorten the shelf-life of the hardware. Even at 90 you're going to fry your thermal paste with extended use of the computer. Once that's fried, your system will have even more trouble cooling itself. Then the sockets start to warp (or motherboard around it). And then you run the risk of a short and fire. If a person you purchased the computer from or at least someone that sells them gave you the answer that it's normal. They're just protecting their own interests in assuaging you from any future purchases. Always ask people who have no financial gain from giving you the information you need.

I had to replace fans twice. But interestingly the first fan that stopped working properly is the GPU fan, even though I never seen the GPU temperature go above 80 Celcius. I don't know how to access BIOS to tweak my fans speed. I am on windows 8.1 on a 4 year old Asus laptop.

It sounds like Kyros' edict was too powerful for your computer to handle
