Is dual-weidling it's own skill in isolation, or does it combo with one-handed weapons at the same time?
Intuitively, dual-weidling is using two one-handed weapons... so if you're skill in 1-handed weapons is high, then you should be better at dual-weidling. But is that really how the game works... or does the game use 1-handed weapons if you have a shield and dual-weilding if two weapons and no shield?

In the game, dualwielding is using two weapons at the same time.

The 1-handed weapons skill is used when using a weapon with nothing in the offhand (i.e. duelling or fencing) or when using a shield in the offhand.

Cool, thanks! I'm glad it works that way so Verse doesn't have to level up both.

Dual Wield is pretty useless. It's best to stick to using two-handed for being a raw damage character. as you have stun skills in the power tree, and armor reduction with sundering. Bow even has piercing shots that hit multi-targets, and great AoE abilities. Where-as dual wield does not really offer anything vauable as far as I can tell.

While I had beaten the game on potd with a dual wielder, it was by far a lot more difficult, than using my two-handed character, and I certainly cannot see anyone doing a solo run with it as it currently is.

However, I do understand that it once was a whole lot more useful when riposte worked with dual wielding. Not sure why they changed it to only be for one weapon with nothing in the off-hand. Just seems dual wielding was gimped.

not really. duel weild can do way more damage then a two handed weapon. plus faster attack speed

When I wrote this question, I was actually thinking about Verse actually as opposed to your main character - although quesstion is equally applicable to both I guess. But the game really wanted her to be a dual-weilding character... she had more points in dual-weilding at the start of the game. I suppose of dual-weilding were terrible, I would have probably wanted to deviate at the beginning immediately... but I had no idea which was better vs other weapon skills. I did beat the game though yesterday morning.... it worked out with dual-weilding.

For my main character, I actually went with dueling. Must be have been a good choice since she was at the top of the kills and other combat statistics for the entire game, except for a few areas where Lantry beat her.

Oh yeah, Verse is way better at dual wielding than the player character. Her killing spree, and lethal opening are absolutely great for dishing out butt loads of damage, and counter attacking on those missed enemy attacks. And some talents from skirmisher tree compliment her duelist talents, such as Nimble, Evasive, and Born of Blood and Fire. Passive dodge bonus, use dodge in place of parry, and immunity to magefire, fire, and bleeding is just great when in the front slashing about at enemies.

I am currently using dual wield for my fatebinder in combination with a lot of spellcasting(battlemage), and for now it is working very well.

The low recovery allows you to weave attacks in between the spells and to better react to battle conditions(as you wont have a 4-5 second waiting period after an attack) while still wearing light armor.
Also, since Quickness is the main stat of dual wield, it allows you a much lower cooldown on spells and abilities in general.
Finally, Lightning and Illusion spells both have Quickness as their primary stat(which are also my prefered battlemage spells), creating further synergy.

So far it is pretty fun.
