Camera Follow / Lock - The "I must be an idiot thread"
I am no longer going to request or ask why the camera doesn't lock and follow our party anymore. In PoE the camera had this amazingly QoL feature as well as *most* games of the type have this feature and why it's missing in this game is beyond me. It IS the best QoL feature a game like this can have. With that out of the way I'm more curious why, out of the few threads on this and the community as a whole, no one seems to care at all about this feature.

To community:

* So no one misses this camera locking, auto-follow feature? (I'm not enjoying this game because I have to force the camera view to a new position *at least* every few seconds and *usually* every second while moving)

* Was it not beneficial to anyone in PoE? (It was the most QoL feature I use in all games like this and especially PoE; I hot keted the auto-follow feature directly to my Mouse 4 button because I had to relock the camera to the party often; as I *need* to do here but can't)

* The attempted workaround makes this almost doubly annoying then just using the cursor keys or Mouse Screen pushing, which is spamming the character select key to recenter every quarter second)

To Developers:

* Why on earth would you not include this feature? At some point in time someone on the PoE team thought it would be a good idea to have this feature, yet this game which is nearly identical in mechanics (just with a different story/setting), it was decided (?) to not include this feature.

Anyways, call me names and have your "strong" arguments against this feature and most importantly let me know why I am wrong to want this feature (lol).

Try double left-clicking as you move your characters.

Thanks, I'll give that a try next time I play. Rather, still, have the option for the camera to lock on to the party but this may work if it centers the screen to the click coordinates.

It does.

Stop play with a gamepad, and use scroll when mouse on border, and zoom out.

To answer your question, no in Tyranny I didn't felt I was missing it.

Double click on portrait to lock cam on character, that's the way to do it. And if I remember well PoE had it and, yeah it was not only handy but also before I knew the shortcut I was missing it particularly because before I had played not too long DOS and Wasteland 2 that implement it perfectly.

Why the hell I didn't felt it was missing in Tyranny is a mystery, I wonder. I believe you don't make much long walk, areas are really not that big, and I think you can zoom out a lot more.

But really do you play with a mouse with scroll on border and max zoom out rather often? You should try.

As someone who felt it was missing in PoE until I found it after a whine in forum. I suspect there's a control scheme that could work for you as it did for me in Tyranny.

Gee there's better stuff where spend time and money in my opinion.

But nope I can't say you are wrong. If you tried seriously, play with mouse, scroll on border and max zoom out rather often, and this doesn't work for you, then go on, continue your bothering whining and ok dev should add it.

I wonder if there's a frame stutter issue with this game in particular, why they didn't invest adding it (keeping it?). Anyways, all sound advice; as for the screen scrolling [with the mouse] I manage to hit it more often when I don't want to screen scroll than want to use screen scrolling for its actual functionality, so I disabled it.
Dorok Jan 2, 2017 @ 10:01am
Without scroll on border it depends of your playstyle, if you are a keyboard artist it shouldn't be a problem, if not then stop hurt yourself and try again with scroll on border.

I agree sometimes it will scroll a bit when you didn't want, but a fast scrolling setup isn't necessary, so if you scroll a bit but not much when you don't want it, this isn't a real problem.

I believe you like play with zoom in, and it's not helping scrolling management, myself I don't like the zom in, so eventually it brings me a different perspective because for all other similar games I needed the auto scroll.

And yet if camera lock [on party] was a thing in this game like so many other games like this all would be well. It can't possibly be titantically difficult to just turn on the feature that is most likely part of the engine already. ~cheers~

You should try game forum, or/and submit a bug lol, like camera lock doesn't work anymore when it was working fine in PoE ha ha.
