Game crashes on startup.
The title says it all. After the most recent update, the game always crashes when starting up the game. I tried all the launch options, and reinstalling the game, both of which didn't work. This crashing issue is exclusive to the update, because I never had this issue before.

Also isn't a save file issue, I went in the game files, took out the saves folder, and disabled steam cloud which would bring it back. Still crashes anyways.

The default launch option doesn't start at all. The second one runs for me, but loading Interloper saves STILL results in "Engine Error - ED_Alloc: no free edicts".

Same here after the update I cant launch the game at all. I click launch, Steam says the game is running for 3 seconds, and then NOTHING. I've tried all different launch options and none of them work. I DID NOT have this issue before the latest update.

Same issue here. Default option freezes at developer logo. Only way is to play using DirectX9+11

I've tried that option and not even that works.

OK so I figured out what my problem was. I had an anti-aliasing shader installed into the Black Mesa file system. Before the recent update I had no problems with it. After the most recent update I didn't even stop to think that the AA shader I was using was the problem. For the sake of experimentation i removed the AA shader files and tried launching Black Mesa again and it worked. Turns out the update broke compatibility with that specific AA shader I was using.

This is still a problem for me. I've really wanted to actually play the update, but I literally can't, even after the minor patch done to it yesterday. I haven't even seen this random crash mentioned at all in the patch notes, or anywhere else really. Right now my only solution is to downpatch, and never update the game until it gets fixed sadly.

Is this ever gonna get fixed or not? I literally can't play the game now unless I downpatch, but I want to play the new update.

Contrary to popular belief uninstalling a game on steam doesn’t always clean every file, some can still get left.

Based on what JSpartan117 said, I’d uninstall the game manually by deleting everything in the game files and then reinstalling.

I fully agree with you. I've had problems in the past with other games crashing or giving strange issues. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling them through Steam and the issues persisted. HOWEVER I found out by going to the game's install location and deleting the folder through Windows file explorer and delete the entire game folder itself like that then reinstall the game through Steam, that fixed my problems i was having.

Yeah, I'm fully aware that's the case, and that's exactly what I did, still doesn't work.

Would you list what you tried in detail if you don’t mind? Even if not me, someone else could take a look and suggest something based on what you may not have tried.

I was preparing this post literally just now lol, the post I finished making just before your comment kinda already explains your question, and I also provide my computer specs (which should be more than enough to run the game btw).

I deleted all the files from steam from file explorer once again, just now, and reinstalled the entire game again just to test whether it would work. I tried every single launch option. None of them worked. It literally just shows like the splash screen for a couple seconds, then closes. I guess I'll throw in my specs here as well in case any developers of this game sees this. I'm not exactly an expert at finding this stuff, but this should be good enough.

OS: Windows 10 (64-bit)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core Processor (12 CPU's, 3.6 Ghz)
RAM: 16 GB
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060
Monitor resolution: 1920x1080
Monitor refresh rate: 60Hz

Alright, that should be enough. Hopefully this gets fixed soon.

This kinda crash I think was related to drivers, maybe of audio but it’s strange how it only happens in necro patch.
