Jut found this thread .. posted my own mins ago about finding the same.

I do not turn off virus or firewall for anyone or anything. This is, i think only the second game since 2000 that has given me this issue.

Hope gets fixed on devs end

Used to get mods from SOF That included odd stuff.. Non Valve related .. but once bitten twice shy.

Just downloaded again.. all protections on .. works fine..

But will still never ever turn off protection for installs regardless of game or dev or mod.

Same here. Restored it, restarted Steam, and it's still happening. I don't know what the problem is, and a friend of mine is also dealing with it.

Same here, steam keeps validating the game over and over again...

Here's summary of the steps which finally worked for me without ever turning off Norton:

1. I found where Norton had quarantined the file "vlocalize.exe" and selected restore and ignore.

2. I then deleted everything in the steam downloading directory.

"C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\SteamApps\downloading"

3. Steam then started to download the now missing update files again and installed them with Norton ignoring the file "vlocalize.exe" this time. Started the game and it worked with my save games intact. :))))

Running Win7 SP1 64bit

We have zero control whatsoever over what Norton chooses or does not choose to flag as a virus. The best you can do is whitelist it and report to Norton; we have already.

Here is a solution a kind user posted on our forums:

"Open norton and click the performance tab. Look on the timeline for where it was detected. Mouse over it and click on view details on view details. Then click on the instance in your security history listed as vlocalize.exe. Click on it then under recommended Action click "options" then click "restore & Exclude" then tell it okay. After that verify your install then update. If you get stuck in a verification/validation loop then delete the local files and reinstall."

Fixed it as said above. You have to play around with norton and delete the entries sat in the download folder! :-)

Another kind user (me) posted the best way to resolve the problem without losing your save games. The method you conveyed from the other user reminds me of the days when tech support people, if they didn't know the answer, said "reformat your hard drive" which threw the baby out with the bath water. I'll post my solution again from my previous post in this same thread.

Here's summary of the steps which finally worked for me without ever turning off Norton:

1. I found where Norton had quarantined the file "vlocalize.exe" and selected restore and ignore.

BTW: Thanks for a great game. I played the mod and decided to support you by purchasing your stand alone version. :)

Yeah I had this issue. I temporarily disabled the auto-protect feature and everything worked out fine.

Also everyone, please submit the file in question to Norton as a False Positive so they can stop detecting it.

Devs need to fix this? Actually you need to fix this by not using this useless software.

Closing this thread because there is nothing more to discuss. If you are experiencing this issue just follow the steps above to resolve this issue for the time being. You may have to repeat these steps if an update occurs (as binaries are usually rebuilt and distributed during each update).
