If you want to support the team and get some multiplayer in buy it. Also this version will have zen when they finish it.
They may or may not, update the old freebie. Guess that will depend on how they feel when they are ready to call this one complete.
What is zen?
Overall the Paid version is much nicer polished all round: it looks less like a 'mod' and more 'professionally' crafted if I may say so, and the better experience for it.
It's still epic and I gladly paid those 20 bucks. Never the less the lack of new content is disturbing to say the least. Few new animations and x1 new music track plus slightly enhanced graphics that at least for now escaped my attention or rather the human eye is not satisfactory.
The mp after 2 years in development is also still somewhat bugged. Once you die the game practically freezes unless you press the mouse button to observe other players. That and few other things I noticed making it almost similar in every aspect to the mod version.
Few suggestions on how to enhance things:
-Add more face variations for npcs
-Add more models for mp such as the nbc protection suit mask soldiers or robots or any other model that used to be in vanilla mp. (Perhaps an additional option for barney and soldier models "helmet on" helmet off" + various skins for those helmets like gasmask no gasmask etc.)
-More maps but that's obviously on your mind ofc.
-Once Xen is done official implementation and enhancement of Surface Tension Uncut , On a rail uncut, We've got hostiles Vent mod, On a rail loop mod. You may like or not like the idea but the fact remains that it was canon and added it own little npc stories in hl1 the way it did things.
-Adding any yet still missing official npc conversations\scenes.
-Adding yet any missing official seen npcs in game (forklift driver for example)
-Perhaps adding more mp modes despite the fact they didn't exist in the official game. You see that's where you can expand up upon. Give it also somewhat your own personal touch not just by the remaking of the maps but also by enhancing the whole experience at least in mp. Perhaps some sort of assault&defence mode BM vs Hecu vs Aliens with objectives involved similar to some maps in svencoop.
-Perhaps for future mod support the addition of the npcs that were originally cut out modders could use these new models to tell even more interesting stories & action along the board. Of course that demends npc code + new models & sounds. But nothing your team couldn't handle.
-Re add the battery for the flash light. Hl1 had it Hl2 had it you should remain consistent with the game series remake or no remake it doesn't matter.
-Enhance the difficulty I'm playing on hard and I'm beyond "We've got hostiles" by now. I only died once the whole playthrough experience thus far.
- Bullsquid needs animation enhancements. The turning tale attack animation looks as it's getting cut out through half the way.
- The Mp5 probably needs either lesser accuracy or a larger recoil effect.
All in all I still regret nothing I do like the whole concept of the game and I applaud and congratulate you folks on an "early access release" well made and well done. :)
Good job ! :)
