You cannot. It was originally intended to be part of the game, but back in... 2010 or 2011(?) they stated they were stopping development on co-op.

it wouldnt make much sense, who would be gordon freeman the host? and player 2 be just some generic guard. i think they could create 3 new named characters for coop that could be gordons lab assistants.

Yes and no. While the campaign does not support coop, the devs decided to leave all monsters and such in the multiplayer. So you just need to make coop maps or modify the campaign to work with coop.

I believe Synergy (HL2 coop mod) now supports Black Mesa, but that may only be with the free version.

theres a separate storyline for coop, its called decay, you control 2 female characters. they were the ones that sent the specimen upto gordon freeman to start the resonance cascade.
